BRAD PITT AND CLARK GABLE HAVE SOMETHING IN COMMON

When we first saw Brad Pitt with Ana de Armas on the red carpet for the Marilyn Monroe movie Blonde, we thought he might be playing Clark Gable in the film. Turns out he was the producer, but it would have been good casting. There IS a resemblance and Brad is the same age Clark was when he starred in The Misfits with Marilyn. It’s rumored that Monroe contributed to Gable’s death. She kept him waiting day after day in the hot sun on location for the western, while she fretted in her dressing room. When the movie wrapped, Gable said “I’m glad this picture is finished – she damn near gave me a heart attack.” The NEXT day he DID have a heart attack, and he died ten days later at the age of 58…

RACHEL BROSNAHAN: FIRE YOUR STYLIST!

You can just tell by the stern look on Rachel Brosnahan’s face that something is decidedly wrong. Rachel is being photographed at the Venice Film Festival at the premier of her movie Dead For a Dollar. What’s WRONG is her ensemble, and she doesn’t look happy about it. The pink satin bustier is kind of a party on the top while the long pinstripe skirt is definitely business on the bottom. But both fail. It’s not easy for Rachel to look less than adorable – she’s always amazing in those vintage fashions in her series The Marvelous Mrs Maisel. Hopefully her movie is better than her outfit.

CATHERINE DENEUVE HAS NO PLANS TO RETIRE

Catherine Deneuve has always been one of the busiest (and best looking) actors in show business. (She was the Charlize Theron of her day) Since her first film in 1962 she’s been making several films every year adding up to hundreds- and she’s still LOVES to work. She just finished one movie, stopped at the Venice Film Festival to pick up her Lifetime Achievement Award, and now she’s off to Belgium to start on her next movie called Funny Birds. It’s an English language movie set in New Jersey, filming in, of all places, Belgium. Years ago, I ran into her at an LA flea market when we both reached for the same mid-century modern vase. I was shocked to look up and see who was next to me, and she was very talkative and friendly. (Neither of us bought the vase) It’s always fun to run into a huge movie star at a flea market!

Lucky The The Card Counter Tiffany Haddish Venice Film Festival

TIFFANY HADDISH: THE HARDER I WORK, THE LUCKIER I GET!

Tiffany Haddish’s lucky streak just keeps on going…In the past few years she has lost 50 pounds, (thru diet and exercise – not surgery!) she gave up smoking, and she became a full-fledged movie star. Not only that but her love life continues to flourish with her boyfriend Common. They were often seen together at BLM demonstrations. Now Tiffany is at the Venice Film Festival where the “revenge thriller” she stars in, The Card Counter, is in competition. Directer Paul Schrader is known for the intensity of his films so it was a surprise when Tiffany was cast – she plays a professional gambler’s agent and adds a bit of levity to the hard-edge drama.

CATE BLANCHETT: WORST DRESSED AT VENICE FILM FESTIVAL

Since Cate Blanchett happens to be the face of Armani, we ASSUME she can select anything she likes from his fashion collections. At least she won’t have to PAY for this monstrosity. Cate is usually noted for her stylish but understated elegance. How she was talked into wearing this peacock inspired flashy gown with a sheer cape is a mystery. This voluminous frock does a good job of disguising the wearer’s weight, but Cate certainly doesn’t need THAT. Just goes to show, even Armani Prive makes mistakes…

When Scott and Sofia started dating she was just a teen, and quite impressed by him. Since then, she’s been doing a lot of growing up. Jeff Goldblum Lookin' Good! The Mountain Venice Film Festival

WHO COULD PLAY A WEIRD DOCTOR BETTER THAN JEFF GOLDBLUM?

Jeff Goldblum turned up at The Venice Film Festival looking quite spiffy (we love men who have style and make an effort) and he’s starring in a new movie with what sounds like the perfect role for him. In The Mountain Jeff plays a rather mad and womanizing discredited doctor who specializes in lobotomies (it’s the 1950’s.) The eccentric doc takes the son of one of his lobotomized female patients on a road trip in the Midwest, resulting in some strange experiences. Sounds like a comedy, but it’s actually described as a drama, in spite of Goldblum’s quirkiness.
