“THE ROAD” IS A MOVIE YOU SHOULD NOT MISS
Filed Under: "The Road" > Movies > Viggo Mortensen

“The Road” is NOT just another post-apocalyptic thriller. Far from it. This might be the most profound and heartbreaking movie of the year. A masterpiece of morality – it’s agonizing to watch because we can so easily picture ourselves in the same hopeless situation. Viggo Mortensen plays one a few hungry survivors left after a worldwide disaster never clearly explained, but apparently almost all animals and plants are dead or dying, the climate is gradually freezing, and skies are increasingly gray. Ten years have passed, food is gone, and Mortensen and his son forge ahead in this desolate barren landscape, scrounging for sustenance and shoes, trying to stay alive as they walk “south” hoping for a warmer climate. It’s the breakdown of civilized society and everyone seems to be a bad guy. (In one scene, a cannibalistic gang of men corralled women and children to kill and eat.) Life is so brutal and terrifying – is it worth the struggle? Many choose suicide and others question if THEY have become the “bad guy.” This movie will not only make you think, it will make you instantly grateful for every little thing you have.

VIGGO MORTENSEN COULD USE A BARBER

This is definitely a bad hair day for Viggo Mortensen, who’s currently in Venice at the Film Festival promoting his new movie “The Road.” It’s a sci-fi drama opening here next month – he plays a man crossing what’s left of the country with his son in a post apocalyptic world. We liked his look a whole lot better as a sexy Russian with slicked back hair in “Eastern Promises.” The t-shirt is cool, however.

STALLONE WANTS VIGGO TO PLAY EDGAR ALLEN POE
Filed Under: Edgar Allen Poe > Sylvester Stallone > Viggo Mortensen

Sylvester Stallone has been TALKING about doing a movie on the life of Edgar Allen Poe for decades and it looks like he’s finally going to pull it off. Sly wrote his own script on the American writer’s madly tortured life and mysterious death in 1849, and he plans to direct the movie, but NOT star in it. First, Sly considered Robert Downey Jr for the lead. But he ended up offering it to Eastern Promises star Viggo Mortensen. Viggo DID ask for a few script changes, but it looks like it might happen.

OSCAR HAIR DISASTERS: VIGGO AND TRAVOLTA
Filed Under: Hair! > John Travolta > Oscars > Viggo Mortensen
Oscar fashion is certainly being talked to death so we thought we’d point out some Oscar hair problems. John Travolta showed up with an odd new hairdo that resembled a black swim cap. This is the best photo we could find but there will surely be more revealing ones later. And Viggo Mortensen, who was SO sexy in Eastern Promises, appeared with this salt and pepper beard that really turned us off. He’s covering all his cuteness. And Denzel only appeared briefly on the show but his facial hair did nothing for him either.

EASTERN PROMISES : LEAVES YOU WANTING MORE!
Filed Under: Eastern Promises > Viggo Mortensen

If you’re planning to go to the movies this weekend – you’re in luck because there’ s a fabulous new movie well worth your time and money. It’s Eastern Promises, and we can’t say enough good things about it. We loved David Cronenberg’s “A History of Violence” for it’s original concept – we’d never seen a movie like that before – how refreshing! And he’s done it again! Eastern Promises offers a peek into the Russian mafia (similar to the Italian mafia – but without any evident code of honor) and it’s utterly fascinating. Viggo Mortensen plays one of the hot mafia guys and he has a shocking nude scene where he’s in a steam room and attacked by two clothed killers. They roll around on the tiles for five bloody and agonizing minutes. Wow! This enlightening and gripping movie ends too soon and leaves you hoping for part II. Don’t miss it!
