CHER: FROM BURLESQUE TO TURNER CLASSIC MOVIES

Cher told The New York Times that her good friend David Geffen urged her to do the movie Burlesque so if it’s a flop she has someone to blame, and if it’s a hit she has someone to thank. It’s her first movie in seven years (except for a voice in an animated movie “The Zookeeper”) and she doesn’t have any more planned. After she finishes in Las Vegas in February she’s may have another “farewell” tour, but she’s oddly excited about a TV job. Early next year she will appear on Turner Classic Movies to introduce and discuss her favorite movies!

  1. Cher looks more like a transvestite with each passing year. Give it up, and grow old gracefully and with dignity.

  2. Thank you! At last the mystery is solved of why anyone would want to be a part of this unofficial Showgirls sequel: David appealed to Cher’s VANITY.

Which is a little like appealing to a tiger—with raw meat.

Surely this will go down as another of Geffen’s infamous brainstorms, filed along with the one where he was begging Cher to marry him back in the 70’s!

(He must have thought they would have passed the time by doing each other’s hair and talking about boys LOL.)

  3. Showgirls all over again, or what was the name of that Maria Carey flop?

  4. Judging by how many comments there are or aren’t, I think she will have Geffen to blame! I do plan to see the movie though, love both of these women.

  5. The preview clips I’ve seen look intriguingly fun so I’m not ready to lump it in with flops like Showgirls and Glitter just yet. The other star rounding out the top tier of the cast is Cam Gigandet, a hot and talented up and comer who should also help generate interest. I’m with you Muffin – sounds like an uplifting confection perfect for holiday weekend theater viewing. See you in line.

  6. Cher is a great entertainer. She has produced some great music, and delivered incredible performances on film. But that hardly makes her an expert on film history. Frankly I do not care about Cher’s favorite movies, or what she thinks about classic cinema. I am disappointed in TCM — I thought the people there had more class and integrity.

  7. Sebastian, TCM has done this before with other stars if that means anything. I think they do it just to vary the routine in the interest of keeping things interesting. My understanding is that Cher won’t be there representing herself as a film expert, but rather just to share her personal thoughts about films she especially likes, TCM’s flavor of the month so to speak.

    Happy Thanksgiving all!

  8. Rick, yeah, I understand this. I remember Alec Baldwin doing a stint on TCM. But Baldwin is a very intelligent guy, and has proven himself so. Cher has often shown herself to be…uhm…the opposite (her tacky endorsements of hair care products — when she wore wigs; her unnecessarily OTT costumes at the Oscars; etc.). So, I really — despite being a bit of a Cher fan — have no interest in her personal thoughts on film. TCM promotes itself as the place-to-be for film aficionados (usually, people who can give Treckies a run for their money in the GEEK department), not perimenopausal women, or drag queens, so I really don’t get the point of using Cher.

  9. You know a bit or two about drag queens don’t you?

  10. Hey Sebastian..why dont you wait and see what Cher does for TCM before being such a snippy queen? Cher knows more about classic films than most film experts. It is a hidden passion of hers and has been for years. If you dont want to hear her opinions that dont watch!

  11. When one has been sentenced to Canadaland—with its 3 months of black flies and no-see-ums followed by 9 months of frozen tundra (rinse, lather, repeat)—one does tend to be a little irritable.

Won’t you please help? Your spare change can make a difference. Send your tax-deductible donations to “The Canada Midol Relief Fund,” care of JCH, today. And thank you!

  12. Obviously my last comment was a war cry to the drag queens. So nice that both of you took time off taping yourselves down to post a comment. But I thought you “gals” were supposed to be bitchy and funny. No sign there^^^^.

  13. Those crazy canooks! Yup…Im a big ole drag queen! You need to do better than that SeaBass.

  14. I just wish she’d put her real face back on and throw this one away forever. It’s sad we’ll never see Cher again.

  15. Cher looks great, if I had her money, I’d do the same. Looking forward to her new projects and think it’s amazing that someone her age still has several show biz careers going. She’s inspirational.

  16. Sexy and spicey and half nude woman…Not much to pay attention to except the Sexy ass woman but the story line was not good and the acting was so…So…But the fashion was smoking hot and later got some of those baby doll cloths for my girlfriend…

  17. This show will turn on all the men in america and that is the only thing that is good…The music is okay but it did not stick for me on any level at all.
