DON CORNELIUS: THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES

http://youtu.be/zKJzRNwe5dg

Don Cornelius, who took his own life yesterday, probably because of health issues, did the world a favor when he introduced his “Soul Train” dance show to TV in 1970. He revolutionized the appreciation of black music, fashion, and culture. He certainly did himself a favor too. Don became a major ladies man always clad in immaculately accessorized custom made suits. He became a fixture at the Playboy mansion parties and enjoyed flirting outrageously with pretty women at TV tapings and award shows. Fans everywhere greeted him with enthusiasm and he had an amazing life worth celebrating. (Above, get in line for Jungle Boogie, 1973, and enjoy the platform shoes and elephant bells)

  1. How sad when someone takes their own life over an illness. Rest in Peace.

I must say that I enjoyed Soul Train more than I did American Bandstand. The video is a hoot Janet. Thank you.

  2. @Denise, I read that he was in so much pain that he couldn’t take it anymore. That is sad.

He despised his ex wife and she gets every penny of his life insurance policy. That is a shame but it was part of the divorce settlement.

  3. RIP to Mr. Don Cornelius…Another BM who got played by a WW and they have the nerve to diss their own women 24/7, really it’s shameful. I mentioned this topic on another thread. LOOK at the picture, she has NO love for anything but his MONEY. I read on TMZ that she gets 300K insurance money even though, at the end of his life he admitted she PLAYED HIM FOR DOUGH.

  4. @Hello
“Don Cornelius died with 2 life insurance policies worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, and the ex-wife he hated will get all the money … TMZ has learned.

Don’s breakup with Viktoria Chapman Cornelius was brutal. He was convicted of domestic abuse and, according to him, she pepper sprayed him multiple times.

During the divorce in 2009, Don said in legal docs obtained by TMZ, ‘I am 72 years old. I have significant health issues. I want to finalize this divorce before I die.”

The divorce was indeed finalized later that year, but there’s a provision in the settlement agreement that says Don must make Viktoria the beneficiary of both of his life insurance policies — totaling around $300,000 in benefits.

Under California law, if a policyholder commits suicide within 2 years of the time the policy is issued, the company can deny payment. But Don had the policy for more than 2 years, so Viktoria — the woman he despised — will get the loot”

Well, all righty then. Check mate. She played the better game.

  5. I don’t know why I bought Afro Sheen? I was just a skinny white surfer boy with blonde hair. But I wanted Afro Sheen.

  6. I couldn’t find the age of his ex-wife, but the photos looks like she is a lot younger than him – when will men learn!?

  7. he married a white woman?
THIS MAY CAUSED HIS DEATH, folks!!

  8. Newly wealthy BLACK men quickly buy a Rolex, Bentley, and a white woman.

  9. Don Cornelius dying from a self inflicted gunshot wound is almost as hard to believe as Marvin Gaye being shot and killed by his own father. None of us know how we are going to leave this world, but knowing that Don took his own life after bringing the joys of music and dance to so many is a hard pill to swallow.
    P.S.
Thanks to MFSB, The Three Degrees and The Sound of Philadelphia for leaving us the legacy of The Soul Train Theme!!

  10. @ Walt Cliff,
    Hey Buddy, Pal, Chum!!
Please consider watching the line dance of Earth,Wind and Fire’s “Mighty Mighty. Talk about a rousing feel good dance journey!!

  11. Hey Leo!!! Old Buddy, so very good to hear from you! I just spent the last 45 minutes looking at line dance on Soul Train for Earth, Wind & Fire. Talk about memories. Dang, what a great muscial era the 70’s were. What an amazing array of hits they had. Fantasy, Love Music, and September remains on our homemade bbq (grillin & swillin) music cds ( a lot of 60’s & 70’s).

  12. These folks are so skinny and chic! Love watching them dance,,better yet I remember watching them dance back in the 70’s hating my white man’s disease!

  13. Don was known to be crazy about pussy….but only from white’s. He had a total aversion to BLACK women.

  14. Don’t know if anyone else gets it, but my Cable company has a channel called “Centric” which shows reruns of shows featuring black entertainers, e.g. Cosby Show. On Friday they ran 24 hours of Soul Train episodes in tribute to Don Cornelius.

@Dragonfly, I didn’t read that story, now I understand. A gun would not have been my preference though.
