DON’T BLAME THE BUNNIES: HORRIBLE WRITING KILLED “THE PLAYBOY CLUB”

It’s a shame that The Playboy Club series was such a disappointment and only lasted three episodes. The Chicago based show set in the 60’s, when Rush Street was hot, LOOKED glossy and great, but the writing was pathetic. A story about the bunnies and their lives at that time would have been far more interesting than the trumped up gangster plot that had nothing to do with the club. A smart female writer would have talked to a slew of former bunnies and gotten all their stories together. These girls had interesting lives and a lot to tell. In those days the prettiest girls in Chicago became stewardesses or Playboy bunnies. It could have been a really fun series.

I think Mad Men has burned up all interest in that particular era.
I would like to see a series that depicts the seventies Punk scene in New York and San Fran.
Ginger over at Punk Globe would be the right person to on set consult.

Patrick may be right about Mad Men, which I love, fulfilling any need for a show about that era. I’m wondering if that PanAm show will be the next one to go.

Speaking of the Playboy Club, does anyone remember Playboy After Dark with Hugh Hefner? All that cigarette smoke and scotch and Hef in his pajamas. The epitomy of cool. Of course I would only catch glimpses as my parents would chase us out of the room.

Thank god! Not so sure if it was the era so much as Eddie Cibrian. I personally think he lost a lot of fans when he ditched his wife and kids for Leanne Rimes. Then he and she proceeded, and still do, flaunt their affair in public just to get back at his wife for making their divorce messy. If he were smart he would not be so bold about their relationship and take short break from acting. Leanne’s got enough money or both of them anyway!

Quite honestly, I liked the show and am sorry to see it go by the wayside.

The writing wasn’t great and certainly wasn’t helped by Eddie Cibrian and his lackluster acting ability. Dimples can only get you so far and he seemed hopelessly miscast. Actually, he always seems hopelessly miscast. The female leads did the best they could with the material they were given. I think this was an opportunity lost for NBC.

I agree, Janet… I was really looking forward to the Playboy Club and the stories of the ladies, and what I mostly got were mobster stories.
