ELTON JOHN IS TOO OPINIONATED FOR EGYPT

Elton John managed to offend a whole lot of people with a few offhand comments he made to Parade Magazine not long ago and we kind of love him for it. According to our clever comrades in gossip at The Evil Beet, Elton mused “I think Jesus was a compassionate super-intelligent gay man who understood human problems.” He also blabbed “Try being a gay woman in the Middle East – you’re as good as dead!” In one fell swoop Elton enraged the Christian community and the Middle East. As a result, a Georgia man was arrested for plotting to murder Elton on YouTube, and Elton has been banned from performing in Egypt. Not to worry, Elton, we’re on your side.

Janet, YOU may be on his side, but I’m going out on a limb here and guessing that most of your bible thumping followers will NOT be on board with you. Let the bashing begin anew!

THUMP! THUMP! THUMP! THUMP! THUMP! THUMP! THUMP!

Ask Sir Elton John if he’s ever been to Cairo, IL ???

And can he play the BLUES…

“Enraged the Christian community”? BS!!! There was NO reaction to that clown’s nonsense that I saw anywhere.

As for bigot Reta’s reference to “bible thumping followers”…I don’t think a moron like Janet “Jesus needs to be taken down a few pegs” Charleton has any.

This man just needs to stir up controversy for him to get any attention. Get a life!

You’re gay! We get it. Good for you. Why does he need to talk about Jesus or women in the middle east. What’s it to him? Dude stick to playing your piano.

P.S. I know Elton’s pretty old, but I didn’t know he was friends with Jesus.

Some of the best military intelligence people are guy. Keep talkin.

As the US Gov’t now is profiling people on the internet along with private industry so they can sell your profile to future employers or if they were smart just to post it all for everybody to see.

What’s most stiking is how many people are racist. As like how in the south, the white and black churches just have quite merged into one.

Why is that ? As look at the UK, that place is turning the page.

Much like why Clapton choose to build a drug rehab center on a tiny island in the middle of no where, where that country population had a drug and drinking problem.

I’m just surprised Sir Elton John, never did something so grand. But, there are those who do serve the heavens above by getting out and about verse just sitting themselves in front of a damn TV screen. And say to themselves this is living.

Jesus lived to 33 and NEVER MARRIED, unheard of in his time. I think it’s pretty obvious he was gay. He surrounded himself with men, was betrayed by one, and Paul escaped to Greece with his life. If Paul was his lover, it may explain why Judas betrayed them.

WOW Village, an actual LOGICAL response on here without all the hoopla and condemnation! Congratulations on having the ability to be able to think for yourself and figure out the facts. It’s not hard to do, is it? Wonder why so many others prefer to stay muddled in the dark? Kind of like we’re STILL in the dark ages in some ways when you think about how some people refuse to really see things as they are.

to Richard Anderson: exactly how is it that I’m a “bigot”??? I believe in total equality for ALL people, including all RACES and sexual preferences. Just because I don’t believe in your “God” does NOT make me a bigot. I live by the golden rule (look it up) and you might want to look up the definition of bigot while you’re at it. Seems to me, it suits you a tad bit better than it suits me.

PS…and if you doubt that Janet has a multitude of “Thumpers” on here, just go and reread thru some of the older posts, and be prepared for an eye opening. Keep your mind open tho, being a thumper yourself, you may not recognise it when you read it…that’s part of the brainwashing you have probably experienced since birth. You should sue your parents for fucking you up like that and taking away your ability to think freely and make your own dicisions. I pity you.

Thankfully I am not catholic, but I think (but not sure) that catholics would construe Elton’s statement as blasphemous. Regarding catholics, I don’t see how anyone could ever be in that pompous fake church what with all the perverts, pedophiles and child molesters in it.

    Reta,

You believe in equality for all people? You totally contradicted yourself. You make fun of “bible thumpers” if you believed in equality then you should understand that each individual is different.

I’m not religious at all, but I respect people and their beliefs. Even if I think they’re wrong, it’s what they believe in, I can’t change them and I accept them for who they are.

You’re missing the point, Elton John brought up a religious figure so naturally any religious person would get offended. People need to learn to respect others and their religious beliefs.

Mom said never to discuss politics or religion at a dinner party, because there would be fireworks for sure.

As for myself, I believe Jesus is the Son of God and He is the only way to heaven via his death on the cross, burial and resurrection; we have to repent our sins and ask for forgiveness through faith. thumpity thump.

FYI, This is the basic Christian belief and it is held by millions.

  15. By Reta
    On May 5, 2010 at

Mr Lion, just because millions of lemmings jump off the cliff doesn’t mean the bunny rabbit should follow suit. You, my dear, of course are welcome to YOUR beliefs, but try not to mercilessly pound them into everyone’s head that passes by.

As for you dear Sally, I have in no way contradicted myself. The thumpers are free to stay delusional, and as I am a true American I welcome free speech and have spoken truly and honestly about my beliefs in freedom FROM RELIGION from birth as being the healthiest way, espiecially for peace around the world.

You might find it interesting to know that my boyfriend is an extremely Christian fellow who gets up at the crack of dawn every day to pray, and even prays over his water before he drinks it! He, like I, accepts me and doesn’t try to twist my head into a pretzel, nor do I try to undo his lifetime of brainwashing, since it makes him feel some happiness to believe he will go to “Heaven” after he dies if he spends all this time praying. We are TRULY the odd couple, but believe in equality. By the way, I am Irish American by blood and he is African American by blood, so we are truly living what we preach. And we have never had a fight, we discuss. Too bad more people can’t learn to communicate peacefully without hate. So, yes, I respect his choice to believe, and he respects my choice not to. So simple. Like Rodney King once famously said “Can’t we all just get along?”

Reta, didn’t mean to offend you.
You seem very opinionated just like those you condemn and hell bent on proving you’re not judgemental. Funny, I can totally see why you and your “bible-thumping” boyfriend get along so well.

Freedom from Religion you say? Elton John opened his big mouth about religion and that’s what started this debate.

  17. By Sally
    On May 5, 2010 at

P.S. Calling somebody who is religious a victim of “brainwashing” just shows how closed minded you are, Reta. Practice what you preach.

Stop being so angry and lighten up.

………he still doesn’t get the picture?
WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY STUPID?

  19. By Reta
    On May 5, 2010 at

Sally, I’m not in the slightest angry. YOU are being judgemental by deciding that I am. I said I believe in free speech and equality, what don’t you understand about that? Believing in “Freedom FROM Religion” allows me complete and utter freedom to live my life to the fullest and accept all people around me as equals without regard to their color or sexual proclivities. Altho, as I said, I would gladly pull the plug on the child molesters if given the oportunity, THEY, in my opinion, gave up their right to be on this planet and breath free air when they hurt a child. 1st offence; they should be permanently GONE!

Making a point that most religions begin to indoctrinate their members from as far back as the point of their birth, even baptizing them in infancy before they have a chance to make up their own mind on what if any religion they wish to follow, is another example of most religions agressiveness in brainwashing from the very time of babyhood.
A baby/child has no ability to distinguish what religion is all about and weigh the options, and so they go blindly being dragged off by mommy and daddy thru most of their lives and having whatever mommy and daddy believe crammed down their throats like clockwork every week just to make sure the brainwashing takes.

If I can thank my father for anything it would be for blessing me with the option of being able to make up my own mind, follow my own path. Letting me use the brain I was blessed to be born with to my own best advantage was the best gift my father could possibly have given me. He also taught me at a very young age that other races are the same as us, worthy as we are of being respected and loved and treated like human beings. He may not have been a rich man, but he blessed me with the most valuable lessons I could have asked for, and seeing the holier than thou bible thumpers on here who hate gays and blacks, and “slanty-eyes” etc., well, I’m just THRILLED I won’t be spending MY afterlife with THEM! And if I were God, THEY would be the first ones I would smite!

The problem you have with Elton John is he’s a bitter person that’s gay. The term bible thumpers is a bit harsh. I don’t believe any religion should push stuff don’t your throat and on the other hand neither should non-believers.

    On May 6, 2010 at

Reta, would the word “Hallelujah” be offensive to you? Just wondering; no need to answer with another ballistic rant.

I cannot see where dandyLion was pushing his/her religion on anyone, but rather just making a statement of his/her beliefs. Just like you stated what you believe in. I did not see any comment advising you of life after death, such as heaven and hell.

However, I must say that the story of your present life is fascinating.

@ Reta: It is amazing how you would not take Elton John to task for his statement about Jesus, yet you say that DandyLion is pushing his or her beliefs down your throat. As Frank N. Stine stated, Dandy was just stating (his or her) personal beliefs. Believe what you want to. (I think I am dreaming while reading all this).

Elton never said that Jesus was gay. What he said was that Jesus understood the pain and hardships that people go through because He was so compassionate. I love Elton’s music, always have, and I think he has as much right to express his opinion as anyone else.

Wow, what curious read this is. I recently read that English actor Ian McKellen rips out pages from the Bible he finds in hotels. This is by his own admission by the way. That’s less Bibles for me to thump with Reta.

Open the dictionary, look up the word coward, and you’ll see the pictures of Ian and Elton. I would want to know what would happen if Ian does this to the Quaran or if Elton calls a certain prohet ‘gay.’ Can you say fatwa.

I don’t know what’s up with Ian, but in Elton’s case, maybe he thinks that God is just like him. Many people believe their God is just like them. But Elton, I believed, said what he said to inflict hate and not necessarily divulge where his faith is grounded.

Anyhoo, thank goodness for free will. If an individual wants to believe there is no God, then so be it. Or if they believe that God is the lamp in their living room, so be it.

Ultimately, everyone can believe as they want. Just remember that Mr. hateful and Ms. intolerance believe that what they believe holds more value than what you believe and gives them the right to ridicule you, torture, or even kill you. They believe you have no right to dissent. **There are no exceptions to political ideology, religion, etc. Intolerant is intolerant.

Free will folks. Believe as you like. Atheist included. Especially our resident atheist here. Soul or no soul, it’s all yours to f..k it up.

Nina: Please re-read the statement by Elton: It said…..”I think Jesus was a compassionate super-intelligent gay man……..

You, Nina, said …”Elton never said that Jesus was gay”.

I think I am able to read. How much plainer can it be what he said.

Dear Frank N. Stine, no “Hallelujah” doesn’t offend me in any way, in fact it happens to be one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite singer-songwriters, Leonard Cohen, who sings in beautifully, as does k.d.lang by the way. I have both versions in my collection and love to sing along (loudly) to them as their beautiful voices swell in my home. Nothing beats a fantastic voice and perfect writing. Now, THAT is “Heaven” to me!

Reta, as you may or may not know—-Hallelujah in all languages means
“Praise God”. Hallel = Praise and Jah = God. Would an atheist even utter “Hallelujah”? Satan doesn’t like that.

  28. By Reta
    On May 7, 2010 at

Frank N. Stine…I don’t run around pronouning the word just willy-nilly, but as I said above, when my favorite singers sing, I love it and Leonard Cohen’s version of the song is the best one done and copied by many artists who don’t do it nearly as well. I love it for THE MUSIC not nesessarily because or in spite of having to do with anything to do with God. I am not that rabid. It is a song, simply that, sung by a brilliant singer/songwriter. And, no, I don’t believe in, or follow Satan either. I don’t believe in ANY dieties. I believe in science and nature, it’s that simple. Not a magical being in the sky. Good luck with that!
