GIVENCHY WON THE OSCAR SWEEPSTAKES WITH ROONEY MARA

Best Actress nominee Rooney Mara, 26, was the “girl most wanted” by designers to wear their gowns for the Oscars because she has not only model looks, but “young and hip” appeal, according to fashion expert Merle Ginsberg. The competition to dress her was SO great that it was estimated she could have been offered up to a half million dollars plus a lifetime of free clothes by a major design house. But Rooney, who usually wears only black and/or white, also insists that her clothes be “comfortable.” And she IS modern – she doesn’t drape herself in borrowed diamonds. She seemed nonchalant about her own fashion importance and told Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet that she just decided on her Givenchy dress the morning of the event – she avoided admitting HOW MANY dresses she had to pick from!

  1. “Girl Most Wanted??” Why?

She always looks so pinched and rat-faced to us. 🙁

And is highly overrated, to boot.

Something Nice: She’s wearing old school Converse High Tops under that getup—which we truly love. 🙂

  2. Oh, and we didn’t say this, but wish we had!:

    “Rooney Mara looks like Spock!”

  3. Hmm. The plot thickens: Octavia just won Best Supporting Actress for “The Help”…

which was exactly as predicted by Mark Wahlberg a few days ago; he says he has a “friend” at Price Waterhouse and that the winners will be:

    Octavia
    Viola
    Jean Dujardin
    Christopher Plummer
and “The Artist” for Best Pic.

  4. I think she has a lovely face but those bangs are awful on a grown woman

  5. Well, looks like Wahlberg knew what he was talking about (he predicted Hazavanicius to win Best Director, too); weird, huh?

UNLESS: the Academy intentionally leaked the info to Wahlberg—in order to goose the interest in the show a bit?

    Janet, your input, please. 🙂

  6. OK. A rat is smelled. Wahlberg was wrong about Viola—it went to Meryl—but since that award comes at the END OF THE SHOW, you gotta believe that this whole Nostradamus deal was a ratings ploy.

Remember years ago when AMPAS always used to lie and say that “a billion people” around the globe were watching the show?—until someone finally called them on their shit and they had to knock it off LOL.

  7. That dress looks like her breasts are crying.

Totally agree with my fellow commenters saying the Wahlberg “predictions” were a ratings ploy.

  8. She is so pale so she wears white on top of that to make her look invisible. The lapels on the breast is ugly. If this was the best the new it girl can do then she really missed the memo.

  9. It looks like her boobs are about to fly away! Horrible dress. Just like JLows. Don’t mean to pick on her but sheesh!

BTW, I like the way you think, E! lol

  10. I don’t care for her looks. She looks like she’d be popular with emo kids. You’d think someone young and fresh-faced like Emma Stone would be more sought after to wear designs than Rooney Mara.

  11. She’s just plain ugly to me, which is surprising considering what a hugely wealthy family she come from.

  12. Horrible horrible bangs.

And that is THE fugliest dress EVER. It looks like two eyelids. What was she thinking?

  13. Kitty, why would it be surprising that she’s ugly if she comes from a wealthy family? Rich does not equal beautiful….unless you mean the rich can afford lots and lots of cosmetic surgery.

  14. I thought this dress was underwhelmingly, and the structure of the bodice was not flattering on her. The heavy bangs are also very distracting.

Worst dress for me was Melissa McCarthy. Being a heavy woman does not have to mean frumpy. Case in point: Octavia who looked fabulous in that dress.

  15. @K Dee, thanks, the feeling is mutual! Fly away, heh.

@Bluejay, my understanding is that “STAT” is used in medical contexts for “right now.” A plausible explanation which I have read of its derivation is that it comes from the Latin “statim” which means “immediately.”
