HAPPY TRAILS TO ROY ROGERS, KING OF THE COWBOYS

We’ve had a crush on Roy Rogers since childhood and thought we’d pay tribute to the cowboy star, who would have been 100 years old on November 5. Before his career peaked in western movies, Roy cleverly had it written into his contract that he owned the rights to his likeness, voice, and name for merchandising. He did it all before the Kardashians. Roy Rogers games, action figures, lunch boxes, books, comics, clothing etc. flooded the market and kids lapped it up. Rogers was second only to Walt Disney in the amount of items featuring his name, so he was an early marketing genius. We always thought he was the best dressed cowboy and envied all those gorgeous elaborately fringed shirts…

  1. Clint Black looks so much like him. They did a video together several years ago. That was pretty cool.

  2. “Today they’re making pictures that I wouldn’t want Trigger to see.” quote from Roy Rogers

  3. Wow ! Cowboys were elegant and sophisticated back in the day

  6. I can’t believe I’m saying this but, thank you Strom for posting the Roy Rogers/Clint Black video. Some hysterical footage from old cowboy movies.

I always loved Roy Rogers and Dale Evans. Reminds me of the little cowgirl costume I had when I was young. I must admit though, I always hated that he had Trigger stuffed.

  7. The best thing about Roy Rogers and Dale Evans is they were committed Christians. They had faults, of course, but they did not fall to the corruptions of this world. So now they are kicking up gold dust on the streets of gold.
