IN HAPPIER TIMES

image009.jpg
We’re dying to find out what on earth Steven Spielberg DID – or didn’t do – to get Oprah’s goat. And did Tom Cruise have anything to do with it? The two moguls have been best pals for years – every since Spielberg gave Oprah her big acting break in The Color Purple. Nowadays there’s such bad blood between them that you won’t even catch them in the same room together and Oprah will NOT talk about it. Many of Oprah’s celebrity pals showed up for the premier of her play The Color Purple. Not Steven. Recently Spielberg was honored at the Chicago Film Festival with a Lifetime Achievement Award and many stars flew in from LA, but Oprah , who lives in Chicago, couldn’t be bothered. She refused to attend or participate – fueling rumors about this secret feud.

  1. We’re dying to find out what on earth Steven Spielberg DID – or didn’t do – to get Oprah’s goat
I would like to know the answer to that too.

  2. There are a number of things patently wrong with this gossip. First, “many” stars did not fly out from Los Angeles. Tom Cruise did, and Roy Scheider came in from the East Coast. That’s it. The rest of the celebrities who paid tribute to Spielberg were on pre-recorded videos.
Second, the most logical (and admittedly boring when it comes to dish) explanation for Mr. Spielberg and Ms. Winfrey’s lack of attendance and the other’s events could be because they were both busy with prior engagements.
Finally, no one gets anyone’s “goat” (unless you’re into stealing from shepherds and that sort of thing). You get one’s goad.

  3. I don’t think Oprah lives in Chicago. I know she had a residence in Indiana many years ago. And during the summer she’s not filming her show so, why would she be in Chicago right now?

  4. Who cares? Seriously. SS is the only one with any class and true attributes. TC and OW are phony.

  5. I think that Spieberg was
furious with Toms couch jumping, and it seemed that
Oprah was very supportive about Tom and the couch..etc
    In a nutshell, I think
that is the extent of the bad blood, it’s called a
    “power play”.

  6. Tom’s couch jumping incident did kind of ruin sales for WOTW. Although it did good biz worldwide, it didn’t do great biz.
Maybe Spielberg was furious that Oprah showed that clip to the world, instead of editing it out of the interview with Tom?
