We must note the passing of Kevin McCarthy who, in 1956, starred in one of the most memorable science fiction movies of all time – “Invasion of the Body Snatchers.” Remakes of this cult classic were attempted but they never matched up to the frightening original. McCarthy played the doctor who tried to warn the population about the alien “pod people” taking over the world. McCarthy always dismissed notions that the movie was an allegory about creeping communism or political issues – he insisted it was simply about “conforming.” Happily, he delighted in the fame the low budget film brought him. McCarthy died at 96 and enjoyed a career of 70 years. We got a kick out of seeing him at autograph shows until quite recently

The sci-fi and horror movies from the fifties and sixties were the absolute best, and the actors who appeared in them were fantastic. And it is not just the famous movies like Body Snatchers; there are some real hidden gems.
Yes, like Plan 9 from Outer Space.
Kevin was a staple of network tv in the 60’s and 70’s usually playing a bad guy. RIP
living THAT long?? what the F kind of Quality of Life would ANYONE have at almost 100 yrs old…..

PitBullLover, it is not a given that once you reach a certain age you will be incontinent and senile. I have met, and heard of, many people in their eighties and nineties who were fit, healthy and sharp-witted.
And think of the knowledge and experience that an 80 year old has. For me there is nothing better than a non-fiction book or a documentary that features interviews with people who were present at a historical event.
I was surprised to hear he was that old. I guess the reruns of all the stuff he appeared in gives one the idea he’s caught in time in a way, becuase I just had no idea he was that old. Had a good life I imagine, if not, I’m sure someone will write a tell-all book soon about him. But, yes, this was a really scary movie and the ones that came after couldn’t compete.
