IS ANDRE 3000 “EXPERIENCED” ENOUGH TO PLAY JIMI HENDRIX?

Hands down, the best live concert we ever experienced was Jimi Hendrix playing in Milwaukee with the British band The Soft Machine opening for him. We weren’t necessarily Jimi fans, a musician from The Soft Machine invited us, and we went to see THEM. But Jimi Hendrix completely blew us away! He was an incredibly powerful stage presence and he had style beyond our wildest dreams at that time. So, we have been eagerly anticipating the film of his life story. “All Is By My Side” starts filming this month in Ireland and it’s about Jimi’s early career years. Andre Benjamin from OutKast is tackling the tough role of Jimi, and while he’s sartorially appropriate, we wonder if he can sing like Jimi. The Hendrix estate proved to be SO uncooperative that all of Jimi’s songs are being re-recorded with soundalike musicians.

  1. Hard to believe that early in his career that he opened for the……the Monkees!!! lol Seriously! 🙂

  2. Once Andre goes through hair and makeup, I think the resemblance will be uncanny!

  3. Even Hendrix didn’t know what was happening during most of his addled, tragic life..

  4. I spent a weekend with Jimi in Vancouver when I was a little kid, at a family reunion.

He was really skinny and quite quiet, a sweet guy, who was happy as he sat on the linoleum floor playing fish with the kids and laughing with his brother Leon and his cousin Diane. He ate cornbread, drank beer and played Electric Ladyland on a 33 rpm record player. He seemed exhausted but relived to be with all his family.

He was not long for this world and I think he knew it.

  5. oh and I think Andre has none of the essential elegance or genuine gravitas of Jimi, yet another stunt casting failure. more movie land fill

  6. Any mentally disturbed, druggy wineo off the street could do that job.
