IS WATCHMEN UNWATCHABLE?

“Watchmen” movie opening today is getting an extremely wide range of reviews. It seems people either love it or absolutely loathe it. Chris Tookey in the Daily Mail lambasted the movie, calling it “tasteless and unwatchable – a grotesque squandering of time, talent, and technology.” He also described it as “pretentious and insanely long. It’s hard to stay awake.” As if that wasn’t clear enough, he went on to say “this despicable trash will find an audience among sad sociopaths, deranged pseudo-intellectuals, and brutalized, immature men of all ages. I just hope there aren’t enough of them to make it a hit.” Other reviewers have praised this movie to the skies. If you’ve seen the movie, who do you agree with?

  1. This movie is unwatchable. The worst movie I ever seen. Don’t waste your money or time. It’s unwatchable. Terribleeee….

  2. Presumably, this kind of Hollywood output is the “fiddling” while Rome burns.

  3. “brutalized, immature men of all ages” perfectly describes a certain type of consumer – the action movie fan who is fascinated with war and violence (even though in real life he would run shrieking from both), and even at forty is addicted to video games, still has a comic book collection, buys Playboy and Penthouse, and can be heard referring to woman as broads or chicks. These guys are disconnected from anything real. Unfortunately they are seen as ideal consumers, and much of the entertainment industry spends a great deal of time catering to them. SAD.

  4. Chill out people, is just a movie and it’s pretty cool(maybe I’m a “brutalized, immature woman of all ages” hehe

  5. What i would like to know from the people that despise this movie is whether they have even read the Graphic Novel? It’s a Satire, people, the violence does have a pt, it’s supposed to get a reaction from you. As in, you’re supposed to think.
Yes it is over the top if you take it as an Action Movie, but it’s bigger then that. And having read the Graphic Novel, i think it did an awesome job of setting the tone and bringing the story to the big screen. The pace was fast, the most important parts used, and the few things they did change from the Graphic Novel made sense.

  6. I read the graphic novel, which is an astonishingly well-done story/piece of artwork. The movie on the other hand is abysmal to the point of being laugh out loud funny. If I hadn’t read the source material before seeing Watchmen on the big screen, I would’ve had absolutely no idea what was happening. The pace is slow and jerky. The film is painfully long and the acting is underwhelming. If you want something you’ll enjoy, skip the movie and buy the graphic novel.
