ISAIAH WASHINGTON: DID THE PUNISHMENT FIT THE CRIME?

Isaiah Washington beat the heat by going to a movie at The Grove. We feel kind of bad about him being fired – especially since he did seem to make an effort to patch things up. Remember, we saw him at The Modernism Show in Santa Monica, chatting with all the gay decorators and designers. In the end, we think the fact that he had a history of temperamental outbursts is probably what did him in.

  1. I think the firing was wrong. He did everything he was told to do and they still fired him. Unless I’m really stupid and he’s a bigot, how sad!

  2. He got dumped by NBC by being a prima donna not for being homophobic (which, by the way, used to stand for No Black Characters).
Anyways he’s cute buff and has a major case of gayface!

  3. Please – if TR Knight had used the ‘n’ word, he would have been fired instantly. Of course ABC did the right thing.

  4. Ooops my bad. Got NBC mixed up with ABC!!!
If TR Knight had used the N word he would not be fired his character is too lovable and popular= advertising bucks.
He would have gone to – snicker- racial rehab.

  5. i think it’s a shame. a sad, sorry shame. he’s a GREAT actor and we are ALL human and we screw up. i forgive him and i applaud his effort to do the right thing

  6. Awww…poor widdle violent tempered homophobe…
Screw him – he’s an ass.

  7. I have no sympathy. He’s a big bully. I don’t care if he’s black or white or even orange a bully is a bully. He should leave Hollywood cause his career is so OVER!

  8. Screw that whining jackass. “That’s showbiz!” Maybe the decided his behaviour is more trouble than it’s worth. I heard one commentator on TV this morning say that burning bridges is not the way to get a job in show business. I agree. Why should the bosses tolerate any bad behaviour? He’s a grown man who should know how to control himself. I hope he has some skill to fall back on and that’s washed up in acting.

  9. Check it out: The Los Angeles Modernism show is not a gay event. Most of the dealers including the promoters are heterosexual. True, the straight dealers do look to us Queer folk for direction. It’s just not a gay event. I don’t know of any gay men or women who chatted it up with Isaiah at the Modernism show. He kept his sunglasses on the entire hour and a half that he was there. Everyone I spoke to thought he was very standoffish.
Isaiah Washington is not the biggest baddest homophobe around. He is homophobic like most straight people.
Did you see him on Larry King? He contradicted himself several times. How does he think that wearing a dress for an audition and getting hit on by men is somehow proof that he is not homophobic? Then he said that he was out with someone who is “really really gay.” What does that mean? Was the guy a flaming Queen? Is that what really really gay means? When Larry asked him if other actors have supported him he said Oh Yes! But said he wouldn’t name names because he just wouldn’t do that. Is it a bad thing or a secret thing to be gay? Isaiah Washington is a homophobe. No doubt about it. So are most straight men.
If we are going to pick on someone, Let’s pick on someone worth picking on. Like say, John Travolta. Here is someone who is a closeted homosexual and part of a cult that is truly homophobic. Travolta is a spokes person for this homophobic cult.
Isaiah Washington will go on to better things. He is talented, good looking, and will learn and grow along the way.

  10. He’s just another victim of the PC mentality. I mean, come on. People are going into “rehab” for saying something that might be offensive? IMO, we are creating a nightmare in this country. Pretty soon, we’ll be like the French.

  11. Hey IW, your 15 minutes is up. GET OFF THE STAGE. Nobody is interested in you anymore.

  12. “. He should leave Hollywood cause his career is so OVER!”
and that is precisely why I have a problem with the way this issue was handled.
the problems on the set should have been made public to begin with.
if there was a problem abc should have handled it swiftly ( fired him if the situation was that serious) rather than making washington jump through hoops, kowtow and THEN fire him all the same.
I think YOU PEOPLE have racial issues, just as Washington has issues with homosexuals and working with others.
You want this guy’s life and his career destroyed?
I don’t know who is more messed up, you people or Washington.

  13. The only damage done was that a gay man was forced to define his sexual orientation in public. That was truly wrong and an invasion of privacy. But it was fueled by the press, not Isaiah Washington.
It’s Isaiah’s temper (during a private on-set argument) that got him in trouble. NBC’s ridiculous firing speaks volumes. Guess what? Firing someone for a word said in rage WON’T help the gay community. Isaiah was doing more good as an employed actor, an example of achieving success despite the odds. He’s always contributed time and money to disadvantaged kids, from the beginning of his career.
I hope he works again and I hope we see an end to the bully tactics of the PC thought police. (Where were the Hollywood ‘moralists’ when pedophile Roman Polanski was awarded his trans-Atlantic Oscar?? That’s right. At some velvet rope after party. Disgusting.)
I.W is the only one in that cast, along with Sandra Oh, who looks like he belongs on the big screen as opposed to a typical TV ensemble.

  14. **ABC’s firing of Washington. I definitely want to remember which network pulled that stunt.

  15. Just like Anita Bryant..this man crossed the line and has paid with his career..Better to shut up as we all eat crap on the job at some point. It is easier to keep the mouth SHUT and keep the job..Was it worth name calling and loosing that fat paycheck? All jobs have irratating coworkers but not all pay so well..What a dope!!!!

  16. I think TR Knight used the situation to shile the spotlight on his self. He was too cowardly to come out and could not figuire out how to get teh spotlight. He is not a hot guy, he did not have a hot girlfriend to take to events and had not really recieved any attention until the F-word buzz. He grabbed it to make a name. He’ll be forgotten for his acting in 3 years. let us not forget Isaiah is a talented leading man.
also janet you rock. i lost you when you were not on the E channel any more and i am so happy to find you.

  18. This whole debacle is a bit confusing…I was watching a repeat of Oprah when she was on the set of the show,
He spoke to the 3 of the involved people & they all said that they had made peace(T.R.) sitting next to I.W.
Now my question is I.W. said that he had a heated argument with Dempsey. So my question is did he use the F word during the argument he had with Dempsey or on another argument with T.R.?
    BTW I don’t think 2 wrongs make a right.
I just hope ABC will mantain the same standard for every cast member when it comes discrimination of any kind.

  19. I think it’s odd He Was offended and feeling one way about life, but must shut up, lose his liberty to free speech and keep his opinion to himself so that another group of people are set above him and win the right to have a person of the suppressed culture seek a foreign culture to adopt or creates a new one to replace it.

  20. Pay attention people.
    Washington was NOT fired.
    His contract was NOT renewed.
ABC had the option to ask him back and chose not to do so.
Washington had the same option, to choose to go back or not; unfotunately, ABC made the decision for him.
He deserved to go. His behavior was reprehensible.
    Good riddance to him.

  21. Same difference Margo. He was canned and everybody knows it.

  22. Not the same difference.
Maybe next time you get fired from MacDonalds you’ll think differently.
    Margo is right.
He was simply not invited to return.
If he was fired he would have been fired after the F-bomb.

  23. ABC always use this non contractual renewal crap and then go out and Backstab you with leaks about it was the Gay issue and his relationship on Grey.
Just like Star Jones and Rosie O’Donnell, they pull this all the time. ABC has been acting so altruistic about this and their hands is just dirty on this too.
I just don’t think they thought IW was going to talk about it so much but I’m so glad he did because, ABC did not do anything about T.R. Knight and Katherine Heigl running off at the mouth every day…and now KH says IW should shut up about it.
So, I’m very, very glad I.W. gave his side of what happened and it’s not at all what T.R. Knight and Katherine Heigl said what happened.
    Shame, shame, shame.

  24. Oh Boo Hoo for TR Knight. What a whiney crybaby. TR Knight—get yourself together and start conducting yourself in a mature fashion. No one cares about your sexual orientation. You played an ineffectual whiner on the show and trust me—–Everyone KNOWS that IW is a far superior actor than you. OH BOOHOO—POOR LITTLE BABY.

  25. I have lost interest and respect for Knight and Dempsey.

  26. “Oh Boo Hoo for TR Knight. What a whiney crybaby. TR Knight—get yourself together and start conducting yourself in a mature fashion. No one cares about your sexual orientation. Wow, there’s some screwed up people. TR Knight never whined. He was asked, he replied.
IW is not the better actor or the better person. I know who I would rather have as my neighbour or friend and it’s not him. You sound just as nasty and petty as IW.

  27. Btw, I think Isaah Washington’s “people” must be out in force today. Never in the history of televsion has one nasty bastard suddenly had so much support from faceless anons.
Ugh, give us a break. He is a pain in the neck and finally got busted for it. The. End.

  28. I AM A GAY MAN WHO IS TOTALLY EMBARRESED BY THIS WHOLE DRAMA.
YES, HE SHOULDN’T HAVE SAID THAT AT THE AWARD SHOW, IRRELEVENT AND FOOLISH AT THE TIME.
BUT TO FIRE HIM AND ALL THIS BAD ENERGY SURROUNDING THIS.
STRAIGHT PEOPLE, YOU F’D THIS ONE UP.

  29. he’s a bigot, he got what he deserved. his interviews continue to support abc’s decision to let him go.

  30. Katherine Heigel lost me for good with her running at the mouth. “God and Fury, she rules her world.”
And this private on-set outburst isn’t a matter of free speech. Who really enjoys any form of free speech on the job?? We all have to deal with unfair situations and rude coworkers. For whoever posted that Isaiah is nasty and petty – – word – – that’s life. When the Thought Police and PC-Slime start deciding what and who are the protected ones, that my friend, is RACISM and BIGOTRY.
I don’t watch the show. I don’t watch any primetime stuff. I WILL buy a ticket to the next movie that has Isaiah Washington in its cast. Regardless of whether he’s a pain in the neck to work with, HE WAS NOT TREATED FAIRLY. ABC (fools) let the media call the shots on this stupid event. If every pain in the neck were fired — or “simply not renewed” — there would be no actors left on any set.
