IT’S NOT “SIGNED, SEALED, DELIVERED,” BUT MOTOWN’S COMING TO BROADWAY!

At 83, Berry Gordy Jr. finally seems to be getting serious about producing an autobiographical musical about Motown, according to Michael Riedel in the NY Post. In 2006 he nearly produced a Motown musical based on a fictional high school romance incorporating the famous songs called “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” in Los Angeles. But he cancelled the show because he had sold his publishing rights to the songs for 300 million dollars and needed to negotiate a deal to use them. The success of Frankie Valli’s “Jersey Boys” pushed him to get serious about doing a Motown musical based on ACTUAL EVENTS. (Plus the success of his son and grandson in LMFAO has made him more relevant.) Berry’s looking for a scriptwriter now and we wonder how HIS version of the story will compare to the memories of his performers like The Supremes and The Temptations...(Above, Berry and The Supremes way back when)

  1. Speaking of musicals..

I just returned back home from seeing “Rock of Ages”. It was very good. Russell Brand, sort of stole the show, IMO. There was a scene with Russell Brand and Alec Baldwin in it. While the scene played out, there was a man in the audience that shrieked, Nooooo! Too funny.

Oh yeah, Tom Cruise was pretty fabulous too!

Walt, regarding Debbie Gibson, she WAS in the movie. From what I could see, she spent most of her time in Russell’s armpit. Whether or not he did
this on purpose. Well I suppose only Russell knows that. Hahaaaaaa. She was sort of trying to steal the scene, as usual.

Thank you so much for the info. You said:

That makes me feel good for Brand. He was in need of a decent role. It may not be a blockbuster hit (that they were hoping for) but perhaps it will make money if it has some laughs.
