JENNIFER GARNER: MEET THE NEW MISS MARPLE

Granted, we were surprised to hear that Disney has cast Jennifer Garner to star in their upcoming Agatha Christie movie as Miss Marple. Keep in mind, Angela Lansbury was considered young for the part when she played it in her fifties. The character of Miss Marple is a sturdy, sensible but slightly flighty mature woman who lives in the English countryside and enjoys gardening and detective work. Her surprisingly brilliant mind and knowledge of human nature helps her solve puzzling crimes. Jennifer Garner as a mild mannered English spinster? We have a feeling that Jen will pull it off in the updated version of the murder mystery.

  1. Nonsense Janet. It’s like putting Blake Lively into ‘Driving Miss Daisy’

Garner can’t act and her jowls will distract me from the plot.

  2. Why bother calling her Miss Marple, when she is clearly nothing like the Agatha Christie character.

They should call her Nancy Drew.

  3. Agatha Christie got me hooked on mysteries, and this casting has me confused but a little curious. Staying true to the books would never attract the Disney demographic or make money.

  4. As much as I hate to criticize anyone (lol), I must say I agree with Alpha Femme about her jowls. Her top lip seems to be heavy at the sides and hangs down.

  5. What’s next? Murder She Wrote filmed in with Malibu with Jessica Fletcher played by Pamela Anderson? Sorry, Janet. There distorting a classic character which is not going to work. Now, maybe developing a new character, perhaps Ms. Marples’ grand niece, would work. But Garner is no Marple. And, by the way, Lansbury’s interpretation was lacking and not one of the better Ms. Marples by a long shot.

  6. Fire the casting agent – This is going to be a bust. She can’t act at all.

  7. Angela Lansbury……I haven’t heard anything from or about her in years. I miss seeing her on tv. I saw her on Broadway many many years ago and I left adoring her and still do.

  8. 18 year old Angela blew me away in Gaslight with with the supurb and young (as she was) Ingrid Bergman. Angela was glowing in that movie as she sang about the bird and entranced the killer Charles Boyer.

Much as Jennifer Garner is a well-know mostly TV actress, I don’t think she’s ever been known as a great actress up til this point. I can’t think of ONE job she did that blew me away yet.

She’s certainly NOT the person for this job, and as pointed out, not the age or citizenship required. I can’t think of anyone offhand that DOES fit the requirements for this role but it’s NOT Garner. Who is doing the casting for these things lately? They need to be fired for sure. Hell, I could do a much better job than some of the recent posts you’ve had Janet about roles being made, or just finished. Incredibly stupid casting and gauranteed to doom the product.

  9. It’s not the casting agents who decide these things, people! It’s the money behind the pictures and the marketers! It’s the executive producers.

Casting agents just look at headshot after headshot and audition actors before the producers see them. Producers and marketers make the decisions of what direction they’re going to go in after doing FOCUS GROUP AFTER FOCUS GROUP.

I’d like to see an older actress do it, but would it sell tickets?

  10. Belissa: yes, it WOULD sell tickets if they got an excellent ACTRESS who fit the role and WAS the charactor. Some roles should not be remade unless they are done correctly. If the originals are that dynamically ingrained in the viewers subconscious, they better do a LOT to overcome that in any remake. MOST remake sucks because they just don’t do enough to make to remake BETTER than the original. No effort, or concern for the audience…just think we’ll be stupid sheep who will blindly swallow anything Hollywood puts out there. Well, we won’t. Hence; all the flops you’ve seen.

  11. I enjoyed when Helen Hayes played Ms. Marple she did a great job. When it comes to Jennifer Garner I considered her a very mediocre actress. Never liked her acting. Why is she even considered for the part can’t they find someone older and better actress.
