JOE STRUMMER: THE FUTURE IS UNWRITTEN

If we were at Sundance, we would have been first in line to see the Julien Temple documentary Joe Strummer: The Future is Unwritten. Joe, the heart and soul and lead singer of The Clash, died too young in 2002 from a congenital heart defect. Temple is becoming a spokesperson for the punk generation – he also produced the Sex Pistols’ documentary The Filth and the Fury. The Strummer film is described as rare footage of the punk legend’s early life, plus clips of the band. At one point, Julian Temple even compares Joe to Winston Churchill. In later years, the politically conscious Strummer was a friend and mentor to Courtney Love, who worshipped him. We wonder if she was at the Sundance screening.

Sounds a lot like Dick Rude’s “Let’s Rock Again”. Dickie Rude was a very close friend of Joe. Dick’s movie premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2004.

Playing bass probably during Guns of Brixton, with Paul singing and playing Joe’s guitar.

In answer to Tina’s question, Strummer used to play bass on Guns of Brixton, one of the rare occassions when Paul Simonon would take the lead singer’s role on stage and also play Joe’s guitar.

My father died when I was 11 yrs.old in 1977.Joe Strummer took over the role of father figure for me through his music & beliefs,he is up there with other people in my life who have made me the person I am today. For that I will be forever thankful. He will be sadly missed and not likely to be replaced.

    |

    BLIND_ITEM_NEW_#CUT

One of America’s Sweethearts is battling a serious drug addiction- not hers, but her best friend’s. Through the years these two have been stuck to one another like white on rice and her fame rubbed off on her pal. They’ve been roomies, have worked together on set, and even launched a business venture together. But all that success has come with a price. After years of being sober, the less famous friend has fallen HARD off the wagon and our gal doesn’t know what to do. She’s hosted an intervention, hired an addiction specialist, and even threatened to end the friendship, but nothing seems to work. What’s a girl to do?
