JOHNNY AND JOEY RAMONE AT THE TROPICANA MOTOR HOTEL

Flashback: We just LOVE this 1976 photo by Brad Elterman of The Ramones in front of what used to be the Tropicana Motor Hotel in West Hollywood. In the photo you can see Joey and Johnny at their rockstar peak. The Tropicana was rock n roll central in those days. Everybody stayed there and the management seemed to turn a blind eye to noise, drugs, booze, groupies, and loud music. Also Duke’s Coffee Shop was connected to the hotel and somebody famous – like Tom Waits – was always there recovering from a hangover.

  1. Ok Janet we get it you love the 70’s. What next Cher in a Bob Mackie gown?
    We want gossip Janet…

  2. I bet you $50 that Janet hooked up with one of The Ramones at some point. Hell, that could be Janet with the red hair and the white funky sunglasses. I’m half way kidding 😉

  3. No One Better Than THE RAMONES and a picture from The Flopicana …. How Great!! Tom Waites and Chuck E Weiss lived in the bungalow in the back (behind the rooms and the pool) of the Tropicana… Tom Waites would drive us to Cantors at 4AM with sometimes with Rickie Lee Jones in tow…Those were the days… Patrice Burke would be at Dukes!!

  5. LOVE IT! More photos please! I keep waiting for the book to come out. Any word on that?

  6. Now THIS IS HISTORY……LUV the outfits, thanks, Janet

  7. I like the retro Mickey shirts.
Wow. They went to Disneyland. That’s real hardcore, those scary punkers.
Whose got pics of them on the Dumbo ride?

  8. This picture is great! I love your gossip, and your great taste in music! Thanks!

  9. Ha, Joey with his then girlfriend, Johnnie’s future wife. One of the few pics of them together and still friends.

  10. Iris Berry was doing a book on The Tropicana that Henry Rollins was releasing but he then decided to only release his own stuff and pulled the plug on the Tropicana Book… BAD IDEA HENRY!!!! The Book Would Have Sold Like HOT CAKES!! Iris had so many great interviews and stories…. Some Publisher Should Contact Iris To Release The Book NOW!!

  11. Rollins is a no-talent jerk. Berry should just release her own book on The Trop. I like nostalgia items like this and would love some old snaps of Cher in the 70s, shut up Anonymous 1!!!
