Katie Couric’s worst career nightmare is coming true. She’s getting a co-host on the CBS Evening News and it’s going to be a MAN. The network had high hopes that Katie could pave the way for successful female news anchors but it seems her personality and the job simply don’t harmonize. At least viewers don’t think so – they’re tuning OUT in record numbers. CBS is a dismal third in the ratings and something has to be done. Even Katie’s visit to Iraq failed to pull in an audience. Behind closed doors, the network had Anderson Cooper at the top of their wish-list for co-anchor, but he has an iron-clad contract with CNN. So the search is on.
Do you think she’ll have to share some of her huge salary? Or, is this another case of failing upward?

It’s not so much Katie Couric that’s the problem, as much as it is that CBS regularly fails to provide much actual news! Way too much fluff, and weird decisions about the two or three lead stories (presumably, the most important things happening in the world each day).

Anderson Cooper will come in and slowly…..Katie Couric will be “on assignment” and then on to…… the Regis and Kelly Show. She just didn’t have what it takes for a night-time News Show.

I started watching Fox News(ducking okay) but the women lawyers on that show blow me away. They’re drop dead gorgeous, smart, articulate and think very fast on their feet. Katy can’t hold a candle to them.

Katie Couric is wrong for the evening news. They need to stop the bleeding, get rid of Couric and get someone in that chair who will appeal to viewers, whether that someone is male or female.
There are women who could do that job who have have not come across as partisan shills (unlike Couric). Ann Curry comes to mind because she has always seemed serious yet modest (again unlike Couric). But whether it is someone like Curry or some man or woman not yet widely known there is absolutely no point in retaining Couric in that job, not as anchor, not as co-anchor.
Anderson Cooper will be the CNS News Anchor. When his contract is up at CNN I am sure CBS will snap him up. Until I would not be surprised if CBS hires STONE PHILLIPS to co-anchor who imo sucks

Yep – Fox News knows how to hook the good women news anchors. Couric has NEVER done it for me. She’s tries too hard, seems fake and doesn’t come off as genuine. Those gals at Fox are quick-witted, funny, smart and pretty.

It would be an enormous embarrassment for CBS to get rid of Katie Couric. Moonves said she was in for the long haul. Anderson Cooper may not be able to get out of his contract at CNN and he’s said in the past that he wouldn’t want to be limited to a 22 minute newscast, but the reality is he’d probably jump at an offer like that if he were anchoring alone. I doubt that Katie or Anderson would be too keen on sharing screen time.
