We felt so sorry for Kim Novak last night at the Oscars. We get the feeling she had none of the preparation and help that other stars get before appearing on a show like this. At 81, Kim no longer has a publicist, agent, stylist, or favorite makeup and hair people working with her. She’s on her own. The Academy should have assigned a team of people to dress Kim in something more feminine and light, and rehearse her comments. She sounded terrified (she’s always had stage fright) and looked like her beauty preparations were mostly facial surgery and injections. Why she was chosen to present Best Animation awards remains a mystery. Back in Kim’s day, the Studio did everything to make their stars look good – now celebrities needs a whole entourage to groom and prepare them. Kim didn’t have that. But we did love seeing her no matter how awkward her appearance was.

the harsh criticism of Novak’s appearance is so hypocritical.
There is an expectation that women look beautiful and young always, that is especially true for those women who work in the entertainment industry.
There is a lot of pressure for these women to keep their looks up.
People actually think Miss Novak should look as he did when she appeared in the film Picnic, 6 decades ago!
Yes, Miss Novak has had too much work done, but I think the loudest outcries about her altered and aged appearance is coming from those who are thisclose to having too much work done.

She looked like a classic victim of bad plastic surgery!
A normal woman of that age will be wrinkled, but not look clownish as Novak did.
I genuinely felt sorry for her, as they threw her to the wolves to be criticized.
The only person who’s older, but definitely won’t come is her fellow Carmel resident, Doris Day. She had some bad plastic surgery ages ago & has also aged really poorly.
They all have too much & then it comes back to haunt them.
Totally agree with Becca. Kim Novack is 81 years old. So what? Last year she looked great during TMC’s classic profile of the month. She appeared for a lengthy interview and did NOT look like this. She looked good for 80 year of age. But when I saw her last night I was shocked. Clearly she had plastic surgery and they pulled too much.
……….she never is.
This look is clearly from too much filler. Janet you almost make it sound as if she was forced to appear. She chose to appear. She has a husband and step children and I’m sure friends in her life. Too bad none of them tried to dissuade her from appearing. Or maybe they did. Her appearance was so awkward I had to change the channel.

Hard to believe there were not rehearsals and, as mentioned, no one forced her to appear.
A balloon should appear next to her face warning against plastic surgery.
But she is 81 and still kicking, and probably licking.
As lola said, her face has been way over-injected. Many female celebs fall into the same trap (Madonna) and get “balloon face.” Fortunately, it’s not permanent. It only lasts 6 months to a year, though now there are injectibles that last up to two years. Hopefully, they learn their lesson after they see how they looked on camera.
Her outfit was dreadful, though. Why did she choose that for the Academy Awards?

As one NY newspaper commented, she looks as though she’s had a wire hanger shoved into her mouth! And she’s looked this way for quite some time now.
Janet wondered why would Kim Novak want to be a presenter, well, I read in a previous article that the freebies that all of the presenters got thousands of dollars in freebies. Trips or Cruise, Trips to the Spa, Art, ect…
that line across her face made me think she looked like a wooden puppet.
