Growing Pains star Kirk Cameron was outraged to hear that noted UK physicist Stephen Hawking is not only an atheist but doesn’t believe there’s a heaven or after-life! He likened the belief to “a fairy tale for those who are afraid of the dark.” Evangelist Kirk, who heads an online ministry “Way of the Master” complained that debating the disabled but brilliant Hawking was like “bullying a blind man.” Irate Cameron squealed “Why should anyone believe Hawking if he can’t prove it?” But Kirk, YOU are the one claiming there IS a God and heaven – the burden of proof is on the one making the claim. We’re LISTENING…..

Kirk will use the usual “because the bible says so” excuse and hide behind that sort of thing. He has no proof and is downright nuts with his fanatical religious beliefs.

Although the idea of an all supreme being in command of the universe whom incidentally looks like a white human man and talked to a human at one time via a burning bush does sound hard to disprove.
Why bother, lets go kill other humans in the name of God. It’s what he wants.

As long as they are not hurting each, who cares. Cameron really never had a choice in his religious beliefs. His parents chose them for him. Hawking on the other hand, and to my knowledge, chose to believe his theories about the universe. Each to his own, I guess. Unless you are hurting others, of course.

GOD please BLESS Stephen Hawking’s ignorant soul. I believe in God. God has blessed me (and you) in many countless ways. Read your bible. Go to church.

I believe in God! I don’t think were like plants we die and that’s it. Think about how life started and look around at the universe, clues! How do you think the universe started if it went for God?? What an awful life, if you don’t have faith, how empty…

    All religions divide.
But which one has it right?
Scientologist? J.W’s? Catholic or Muslim? Buddhists or Hindu’s?
The Scientologist god pays well. I like money gods.
Angry, judgemental, vengeful gods are off my list of favourites though. That’s pretty much all of them isn’t it?
    Angry god bad.

Janet, thank for posting this. I agree with you 100%! Since I left the US in 2004, I’m shocked to realise how unique US is in its divisiveness around religion. Stephen Hawking is such an amazing genius, it would be Kirk acting the part of the blind man being bullied.

  19. By Patty
    On May 20, 2011 at

This country was founded, in part, to worship as we choose. Why it is so “in vouge” to trash people who choose to practice a faith is beyond me. Janet, it makes you look small to trash everyone who is religious simply because you don’t like Kirk’s recent comments.

Stephen Hawking has been blessed with a fabulous mind, but in an unhealthy body. Despite his physical failings, I doubt he is capable of being bullied.

Natalie — yes, only the dead know for sure. That being said, check out the Biography Channel’s:

    I Survived…Beyond and Back

People are interviewed who DIED. They were flat lining…outta here…clinically dead, adios. Their stories are beyond amazing. The beauty they encountered once their hearts stopped beating (in one case for 57 minutes and 21 zaps with the d-fib) will have the toughest out there teary eyed. One woman wrote a book about it as it was such a life altering experience. The man on his motorcycle who got crushed by a truck LOVED being on the other side…he did not want to be back here. In fact, he said, “Now when I hear about someone who died, I think: lucky bastard!” Yeah, the beauty is something these folks cannot put into words. So Stevie Wonderfully Brilliant Hawking, yes, you are intelligent, but it looks like you’re wrong on this deal. The dead have spoken!!!

  38. By Reta

Scientists have determined that the so-called “seeing the light” etc phenonenon that people describe when they temporarily lose vital signs is really the brains shutting down to the loss of oxygen. I was taught in nursing school never to speak about a person who has just died in FRONT OF THE “BODY” because the hearing is the last to go and because the brain leterally takes at least 5 minutes to stop fuctioning, a person can HEAR YOU speaking about them even tho their heart has stopped and there are no vital signs. So never stand above a patient and say “He’s DEAD” because he can probably hear you.

I go with the scientists in that the brain is an awesome instrument and does very intriguing things when the neurons are dying.

  39. By Patrick
    On May 20, 2011 at

REta, scientists have now determined that just because the power goes out does not mean the power has disappeared from the matter of the universe. Gives one pause for thought.

Reta….yes, I’ve heard that for a long time now. These people’s stories are quite different. That one gal was flat lining for nearly one hour…she was miles beyond floating over her body. All these people were. And all their stories were different. The common element: beauty…unspeakable beauty.

Speaking of death, what time is the rapture today?

  42. By Polly
    On May 21, 2011 at

The brain is a pretty complicated piece of equipment to be designed by “accident”. If life is just some big accident why are living things so complicated? Why aren’t we all just simple bacteria? It seems the more complicated organisms are the more likely it would be that is was somehow “designed” by some force bigger than ourselves. No one can really explain the trigger that is evolution or how it all began so I’m keeping an open mind. Mr. Hawkings is a brilliant man but why are we accepting everything he says as Gospel? Even Einstein made mistakes.

  43. By Reta
    On May 21, 2011 at

Polly, I’m not accepting ANYBODY’s views as gospel. Let alone a book written by MEN way past the time when Jesus walked the earth. “GOD” didn’t “write” the bible, humen men did, and in fact a woman wrote one of the “books” of the bible which was removed from it by the Catholic church.
There are many many parts of the bible and stories in it which are in other books which came before it, including the Koran. Verbal stories passed down for generations in several parts of the world echo some of those stories, so how can this one book say it is the “word of “God”.

Look at the area where Jesus came from. He was NOT a white man as depicted now for centuries in paintings and assumed by most Christians as what Jesus looked like. How many MILLIONS of years have people been on this planet, yet Christians believe and follow a book written by MEN around two thousand years ago. THINK of how NEW that book is in the scheme of things. People can write anything they want, and they DID, nad who was to stop then. Other people came along andchanged it, edited it, and removed parts of it. It is in NO WAY the original work it WAS, and your JESUS did not WRITE it, he was DEAD. Those men could say anything they wanted and claim it was the word of Jesus or God, but that doesn’t make it so.
I think you people who blindly believe this stuff have given up your brains from free thinking, and most likely were brain-washed from birth or childhood.
Look at the peopl who are terrorists, they are brought up to believe that stuff and that giving their life for that cause is the ultimate glory. They are blind to any other thoughts or beliefs, and are just hopelessly brainwashed.
It’s all the same, just differnt beliefs or religions, but people who give up their brains to blindly follow what they were told to believe from childhood are BRAINWASHED.

The bible is a tool of patriarchy and control a hornets nest of molesters and abusers intent on making life hell for women and children. The bible benefits men. What are you stupid? Religon impregnates women and stifles children.

    On May 22, 2011 at

Mel you’re the unintelligent one here. First of all, you can’t PROVE there is no God you are just assuming and second of all, you are confusing religion with God. Religion is made up to control men, God is not. God is something that just is, it has no purpose. Some argue that the universe itself is God and that we become part of it when we die and that makes sense if you believe Einstein. Every time someone on the internet mentions God all you religion haters show up ranting and raving about the bible showing your own ignorance. There are millions of people who believe in a God but do not follow any organized religion because of the sentiments you expressed about the hypocrisy of it all. Just because I believe in a God doesn’t mean I’m some bible thumping nut and I resent people like yourself trying to lump people like me in with all that.

  52. By Christine India
    On May 22, 2011 at

Religion, per se, just being religious is not the way to get into heaven. Example: Jehovah Witnesses, Mormons, Muslims. Hare Krishna, are deeply religious, but their beliefs are wrong, as they do not confess Jesus is God come in the flesh, born of a virgin and walked the earth 33 years before being crucified on the cross. Confessing and repenting of your sin to Christ, the only Saviour, believing He died on the cross and rose again and is alive forevermore is the only way to heaven. Not Allah, the Pope, Virgin Mary, Buddha, but Jesus and Him only can save you if you learn Who He really is and then your sins are forgiven and your name is put in the Lamb’s Book of Life. These are definitely the last days, which has just been proven once again, by the false prophet Harold Camping. The Bible says in the last days there will come false prophets.

Christine, Atheists don’t like the concept of God because it entails GUILT which they don’t like because they live amoral lives exploiting others, engaging in promiscuous sex and doing drugs. They don’t want to feel bad about their lifestyles so they get mad when someone comes along and introduces concepts of right and wrong. They are nihilists, pay them no mind and just believe what you want.
