What could me more fun than drag kings? We found photos of drag king groups from the forties and very recently. Of course our current favorite drag king is Lady Gaga, who transformed herself into a petite but believable male for Japan Hommes Vogue. Gaga is hoping to perpetuate that rumor that she was born a man.

Who CARES…. the ones at the top look the most girlish to me, and frankly, or shirley, I don’t give a shit enough about lala crapfest to bother minding if its boy or girl! I just want it to GO AWAY ALREADY!!!

Am I alone in thinking she’s overrated and not as original as everyone makes her out to be? Everything she does has been done before so no surprise there.

I like how in the top picture, the women dressed as men – still wear lipstick. Ha. And in the bottom pic, those are women dressed as men? i wouldn’t have guessed that…and then there’s Gaga, who does look like a dude in that pic. I think folks are tired of her and her antics, and she needs to go away for awhile. The backlash is coming down hard and fast and she can’t escape it.

I started out not liking Ms. Gaga but that has changed. I don’t even attempt to mow the grass without an mp3 filled with her music. It grows on you and is terribly addictive. If you have never seen her in concert, you really should. The two most entertaining women in rock music (in my opinion) are Pink and Gaga. Either of these ladies will blow your mind in a live concert.
Walt, I agree on Pink having a whole hell of a lot of talent in writing ability AND a stunning singing voice and ability to perform visually brilliant pieces. Her showstopping song while hanging in a silk fabric and dancing in midair while dipping into water, will never be forgotten. Never missed a single note and her voice was lovely upside down or rightside up.
On the other hand, you have gagme and her gimmicky crapfest of ripoffs and clown getups, and huge hats, and she can’t cover her ugly face enough for me. She needs to add one thing to her usual outfits of insanity tho, for they are surely lacking: a dirty sock to cram down her throat for she sure as hell can’t sing… I’d rather listen to a cat being stomped to death!
Pink doesn’t write shit Reta, Kara Dioguardi writes all her songs. That’s why they all sound the same.
If Kara DioGuardi wrote all of Pink’s stuff, then how come it doesn’t sound just like stuff she wrote for Ashlee Simpson? Or the Pussycat Dolls? Or all the other pop music she has co-written?
Kara DioGuardi herself is on record as referring to Pink as, “one of the most talented artists out there today”
I’d have to say that whoever writes and produces Pink’s music does a far better job than CaCa’s.

Walt Cliff, I’m glad you like Gaga’s music, but David Bowie, ABBA, and Ace of Base (she borrows lots from them) did it much much better. Check them out sometime.

Sally, WOW! I cannot tell you how much I agree with most of your thoughts on this. However, I think GaGa is an interesting performer. I get a bit tired of all the costumes (it is all 70’s post-punk art school posing), but she can construct a great pop song and can sing. Also, she is an interesting beauty, a nice change from the over-processed Barbie dolls that come out of the American – and now British – entertainment industry.
Pink DOES write at LEAST most of her music. I have heard HER talking about her writing process as well as other people discussing her process and what she goes thru and what some of her songs were inspired by. She’s a brilliant poet, as well as performer. Gagme just concocts nonsensical tripe with repetitive lines that say nothing. She is not chalenging at all, and is a fake poser in her so-called “original-ness”.
Pink doesn’t bother me as a performer I just don’t think she’s all that original. The whole music industry really sucks right now, a total dearth of originality and talent. Really, how many of these people will still be around 10-20 years from now? Where is this generation’s Beatles or Bob Dylan?
Kylie, people said the same thing about Madonna, and the Beatles, in their time. It does not take any genius to declare, in retrospect, someone talented and significant. GaGa has already proven herself. If she stops working tomorrow, she still has her place in pop music history. Remember, some of the most significant figures in cultural history are only known for one great success, with all subsequent disastrous failures forgiven (see Mary Shelley and “Frankenstein”, Bram Stoker and “Dracula”).
When did all this craziness start, where is the talent? Stop being a freak.
