Barbra Streisand is in Las Vegas this weekend and the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s Norm Clarke reminisced about her FIRST appearance there in 1963. She was the OPENING ACT for Liberace from July 2 to Aug 4 in 1963 at the Riviera. The ladies who adored Liberace didn’t warm up to Barbra, then 21, and her first two nights were disastrous. So Liberace started introducing her at the beginning of the show as his “discovery” and raved about her talent. After that great buildup people started paying attention to Barbra, and the rest is history.

  1. well, I KNOW WAS A HORRIBLE JOB BUT SOMEONE’S GOT TO DO IT.

  2. A good thread…did Bab’s ever acknowledge this…most likely not. She is one of the most arrogant jew’s ever!

Liberace was a flaming fag but at least he did not come out for the “cause” in public. You have the modern gays like Ellen and Rosie and Rachel Maddow who can’t go a day without using it in every quote…..Keep your perversions to yourself, we don’t want to hear of them and/or make marriage between a man and a goat/fish/tree/treefrog possible or acceptable.

  3. Whether Liberace “discovered” Babs or not, the woman is very talented & would have been successful just the same.

  4. Nice to see there are still decent people (yo yo) who can read Janet’s items and not post some disgusting, filthy, homophobic, racist slurs.

  5. Nice story. I’m impressed by artists who prop up (or have propped up) other artists. Such a welcome change from the “tear down the other guy” mentality.

  6. Don’t like the reply from Strom. No matter from what race , creed or sexuall orientation people are they should be respected Streisand is a rare talent and her work should be celebrated

  7. No matter…Bab’s is known as a greedy yid of the first order….it may be in the blood but doesn’t have to be enabled by public support.

Most of the famous were helped along in their career, sponsored or whatever. It would be interesting if Bab’s acknowledged this…most likely not.
