LONG ISLAND MEDIUM: JUST ANOTHER FRAUD

Just as the horrific Long Island Medium returns for a new season on TLC, the subject of “psychics” has jumped back into the headlines thanks to story about the three women kidnapped and held hostage for ten years. So-called celebrity psychic Sylvia Browne appeared on the Montel Williams show in 2004 after Amanda Berry, one of the women rescued, disappeared, and informed her mother that Amanda was dead. The Skeptics Society was quick to remind everyone about this very wrong prediction (among countless others) and hopes to expose “the whole despicable profession.” We’ve always wondered how normal educated people like Larry King, etc, could interview “psychics” on their shows and keep a straight face. The Long Island medium is just another con artist taking advantage of vulnerable people. Why are these fakes given credence on TV?

  1. The police and the fbi are worse than the psychics. Many times neighbors called on the kidnapper and the police or fbi did nothing. No posting of pics on the internet, around the neighborhood, or milk cartoons of the kidnapper for all these years. The women should sue the police for incompetence.

  2. 20 years ago, there was an atrocious talk show called the Bertice Berry Show. The host claimed to be a psychologist.

One episode of this short lived disaster was “How To Spot A phony Psychic”
This sounded weird enough to watch, but I only stayed about 5 minutes.

    Here’s what I “learned”.
    Q. So how do you spot a phony psychic?
    A. You go to a real psychic!

When I stopped laughing, I turned off the TV!

  3. No psychic or medium can claim a 100% success rate; any reputable one will tell you this. The information can be garbled or confused.

Just because a few doctors do it wrong, does that mean all doctors are fake or incompetent?

Just because a few gossip columnists make up stuff or get the info wrong… does that mean they all do? Um…

  4. I don’t watch these shows, but I know that some people have “something” that allows them to predict events. I myself have dreamed things that I could not have possibly known were going to happen. Of course, I don’t know that until after it happens, so I can’t tell anybody right after I dream it. It never fails to startle me, though. I’ve never dreamed anything horrible, but what I have dreamed is enough to startle anybody.

  5. Carlotta:

When a doctor pronounces a patient dead and then that patient gets up and walks out the door, I would say that doctor is a fraud. But since you seen unconvinced, maybe you can give Dionne Warwick a call. She could use some cash and you seem the type to willing give it to her.

  6. Your headline calls Long Island Medium a fraud. The body of your article talks about Sylvia Browne. What is the basis of calling Long Island Medium a fraud?

  7. I was riding an elevator with a woman who I used to see every now and again and I said oh congrats! And she looked at me and said on what? And I said well didn’t your daughter just have a baby boy? And she just looked at me and said no but she just told us a few days ago that she is expecting. I was stunned because I felt with every fiber of my being that we had a converstation and she told me her daughter had a baby boy and there were all so happy because she thought she couldn’t have kids. And yes she did have a boy and yes she was told she couldn’t have children. That spooked me. But Sylvia Brown has always seemed like a big old fraud to me.

  8. I think Teresa is the real deal, and I’ve met a few amazing mediums in my life. Of course there are frauds around, but I don’t think she’s one of them. She’s far too accurate to be a fraud. Mediumship and psychics are completely different. Psychics predict the future, and its easy to get that wrong because we change our minds and our direction every day. Talking to spirits is a completely different thing. My own passed over father has let me know he’s still around!

  9. The most educated people are often the most superficial unfortunately. They think inside the box, and are afraid to look outside the box. Fear and loss of control I think.

  10. Larry King is a Jew and thus would do anything for money.

  11. “The most educated people are often the most superficial unfortunately.”

    and

“Larry King is a Jew and thus would do anything for money.”

whenever I read comments like these preceding two gems, I feel so much better about myself.

Thanks for the laughs, Babs and Sherrylynee, you two are a real pair of windowlickers ! dummies abound !

  12. because “the long island medium” is a reality show, they can say and do whatever they want and they can edit the show to look anyway they want.

they also can hire anyone to play the different parts of people she reads for.’

    geez get a clue!!!!

  13. Why was arrogant BLACK Dionne Warwick not arrested for physic phone scam she was involved in?

  14. If you care to bother, put 200 on the table in front of the psychic.
The psychics eyes go wide with{gotta sucka} anticipation.
Tell the psychic this is for you because you are a psychic…right?
The psychic gives you the sage nod and assurance all will be right.
Tell the psychic the 200 is for you if you can tell me my name.
Pick up your 200 and walk away.
    They hate that shit!

  15. Why does it show a picture of Theresa Caputo and then your headlines are talking about Sylvia Browne
It looks like you have your facts wrong and by the way I think she is the real deal.
