Facebook mogul Mark Zuckerberg has been living modestly in rental houses in his Palo Alto neighborhood, but it’s rumored that he decided to take the plunge and invest in real estate – he purchased his own home there. The Real Estalker believes that Mark paid 7 million dollars for this historic home in a posh neighborhood, built in 1903 and recently renovated. The house has 5 bedrooms and 5 baths in 5,617 sq ft. Frankly, we’re FLOORED by the price tag because it doesn’t LOOK like a 7 million dollar house to us, but maybe it’s just a not-so-flattering photo. Or maybe Mark likes having an unassuming looking house.

If this is supposed to be a swimming pool, I’m in shock. Never seen a pool even in a poorer neighborhood just sitting there not surrounded by concrete and with lawn furniture. Whoever sold this to Mark saw a sucker coming; it couldn’t be worth more than $2 million.
Who cares, he can afford it. Maybe he threw in a few extra million.
5600 sq feet isn’t exactly cottage size!! Zuckerberg probably has state of art security as well as entertainment systems installed as well. All the bells and whistles so to speak.
The house is to die for. If I had the money, I would pay that. I am obsessed with historic homes so they had me at the word historic.
This is obviously the backside of the property. True, the pool area is a bit bland, but the new owner can spruce it up however he wants. Perhaps he willl hire a decorator or maybe he’s in the market for a new wife and wants kids to fill it up. It looks like a lovely place to me, but that’s just too too much money and I think he got screwed on the price. In today’s market he should be getting a lot more for that much dough. I agree, maybe a couple mil. I’d love to see the inside and the floor plan.

you people obviously have no idea what real estate actually costs in the SF Bay Area….Palo Alto is one of the most overblown costly places to live….insane….. even run down dumps in Paly cost and arm and leg…..srsly.
don’t even think about Atherton, Woodside, Los Altos….. even San Carlos…..

He won’t bulldoze it. That place has the Palo Alto “look,” and it’s in the best neighborhood, where many of the high tech movers have settled. It’s shockingly expensive to buy here, but you get what you pay for. PA real estate prices barely touched in the recent downturn.
The house will probably be worth $7 million after it has been treated as a fixer-upper!!

This neighborhood is known as College Terrace. Steve Jobs lives just a few blocks away, in Professorville. (Stanford just a stone’s throw away, hence the collegiate names.) Steve’s place is a lovely, English country style house. It’s very nice, but definitely not the estate-like, gated manse one might expect. Easily Google-able, if you’re curious. There are many, many lovely old homes like this in central Palo Alto.
I too live in Northern California. That price is typical. I’m sure he’ll have that place outfitted with more security and spywear than a James Bond movie.
I read he has 17,000 sq ft of yard, which is pretty darn big for here, and accounts for the price
