MATT DAMON GIVES HIS ALL, BUT IT’S NOT ENOUGH

Had we realized that Steven Soderbergh directed “The Informant!” we would have lowered our expectations. As a rule we find most of his work to be ABOUT men and FOR men, like the Oceans movies and Che. Females are just window dressing, and usually the men featured aren’t all that interesting. With the exception of “Erin Brockovich”, we never found his movies to be particularly engaging, and most of them are downright boring. In spite of Matt Damon’s very determined performance, this movie, which features a large group of mostly unattractive businessmen, is dull and repetitious, and we had to fight to stay awake.

  1. sorry janet but i have to disagree with you about steven soderbergh. his most successful films critically were ‘erin brockovich’ and ‘traffic’. those films had excellent roles for women and earned julia roberts her one and only oscar.

  2. Thanks for the warning. I was gonna see it this weekend, now I won’t. And you’re right — Soderbergh’s treatment of women is deplorable. Even Erin B. She was a tramp who slept with the lawyer to advance her career and wore sleazy tops to show off her implants. Some feminist.

  3. Check out Bubble. It’s low budget and indie, but it was actually an interesting one.

  4. To look at Matt Damon is to feel really really bored, tired, and sleepy. He’s great if you have insomnia.

  5. I agree with your assessment Janet. Erin Brockovich was boring too. I did like Traffic (I think?)?

  6. Janet, you and I must have seen two different movies because The Informant! is FANTASTIC! True, you can’t just sit there in your chair like a lump; you actually have to think about what you’re watching. But if you have a brain and like to use it, you’ll thoroughly enjoy this film.

  7. I agree with you Janet – Soderbergh’s dull, contrived and mysogonistic movies are completely overrated. Matt Damon simply switched up his standard flat, robotic performances for desperate, attention grabbing antics – none of which creates an interesting character. Save your $12.50.

  8. Matt Damon is not a good actor and if it wasn’t for the Bourne series, his career would be dead and he’d be left to sucking on his loser buddies pecker (Ben Asslick). The majority of Soderbergh’s movies have a hard time making money. This movie will flop.

  9. I totally agree with you Janet. I found this to be a dull, boring movie with just a few laughs. My friend slept thru most of it as well. And it’s not making money, so we’re right!
