Just like the old days, it appears that Mel Gibson’s estranged wife Robyn is coming to his rescue. (When they were young back in Australia she used to pull him to safety out of bar fights and drive him home in her truck) According to the Daily Mail, she was shocked by Oksana‘s claims and wants to get Mel OUT of Hollywood as quickly as it’s legally possible. She advised him to sell all his properties in the US and move back to Australia where she will join him with some of their kids. He already unloaded his New York property after drastically cutting the price, and his Malibu place is on the market.

Is she actually thinking of taking him back after what he has been doing? First cheating on her, making a baby with someone else and then being a misogynistic racist abusive son of a bitch? Wow, I wouldn’t give a one sentence of my “rescue”…he made his bed now let him lie in it, and I hope it smothers him!

Mel will need some serious obscurity by the time this mess plays out.

If his wife is willing to take him back, he is luckier than he deserves to be.

Anyone notice that Robyn’s statement specified that he has never been physically abusive to her, but said nothing about verbal abuse?

  4. By Bettye Bluejay
    On July 18, 2010 at

The statement probably covers all abuse.

I’m starting to believe that Oksana doctored the tapes, said plenty of inflammatory things to Mel that set him off, and knocked her own teeth around, not out, just chipped them and lost some veneer. She’s an evil conniver.

Robyn is obviously a generous, wise, loving woman.

I normally wouldn’t condone people running away from their problems, but in this instance it’s probably the best decision Mel’s ever made since he’s completely lost his marbles.

And Betty, What? You can’t rebut an accusation of violence and prejudice with “she’s a conniver”. How is that a rationale? It’s not the same discussion. It doesn’t excuse the alleged abuse, it certainly doesn’t excuse his prejudice, and it absolutely doesn’t excuse that he’s totally f-cked up.

BTW, Robyn’s statement in defense of Mel was carefully worded. She specified he never “physically” abused her. I don’t think she’s sticking by Mel so much as she’s thinking about the impact on the children and trying to mitigate his insanity for their sake.

Good Riddance. Mel is the biggest hypocrite in Hollywood. I don’t know anyone who can stand him. He’s so self righteous with his church and his flock of kids (doesn’t believe in birth control, doesn’t believe in safe sex) yet apparently thinks its fine to be drunk, stoned, abusive, commit adultery, make unwanted advances on other women, have children out of wedlock (all against his religion), and drive drunk. Yes, go home to Australia. As fast as possible please.

uh Bettye, say, I have some fabulous beach front property to sell you. In Nevada. Really cheap, you’ll love it. omg, my poor husband (works in movie industry btw, knows mel) is still choking after reading your post.

Mel made so much money from the Passion of the Christ, he need not ever work again. Disappearing for a while is a good idea, but his ego may get in the way, and he wants visitation with that baby. Obviously, I don’t know these people, but perhaps Robyn is concerned about how this will affect their children if it plays out too long in the public eye.

  9. By Indy
    On July 18, 2010 at

Maybe Robyn feels that he has hit rock bottom and the only place to go now is UP. In any case, if she does take him back, they should sell everything, move to Australia on a farm, go to re-hab, and she should let him know this is the absolute final last chance. Myself, I would tell him to get lost and get all the cash I could. If the above occurs I don’t know about his visitation with the lovechild.

@ dimes and Tracee, yep. She also said he was a “wonderful and loving father” during their marriage, but not a word about how he treated her, or the marriage itself. The woman is a SAINT for doing this, and I totally agree that love for her children rather than Mel is the reason why.

  11. By Seriously?
    On July 18, 2010 at

If this is true, Robyn is not a saint, but rather a chronic enabler who would put her children in danger to foster the image of herself as the loving, long-suffering, selfless wife. I cannot respect anyone who would allow their children to be subjected to this psycho. Oksana at least has the sense to try to keep her child safe from him.

I am not condoning domestic violence, but the fact that Mel never laid a finger on Robyn may be evidence that either 1)Oksana is lying or 2) Mel and Oksana’s relationship was dysfunctional (with her partially responsible).

I can tell you flat out it is no picnic being raised by a drunk. And MY dad wasn’t a racist, crazy ranting woman hating vicious heavy breathing out of control monster. Gee, THAT sure sounds like the ideal daddy, now, doesn’t it? And did any of you notice in one of his rants he came right out and said he didn’t have “any friends” and she (Oksana) had been his “only friend”? He did say it, I heard him plain and clear. I wonder what his ex-wife Robyn would think of THAT? His youngest child with Robyn is 11, and then there’s this infant with Oksana. Neither young child should be exposed to his violent scary vicious screaming fits. He is dangerous to himself and anyone around him while he’s ranting like a maniac. These are the kind of people who we hear about in the news who take out their whole families one day when they “snap” suddenly after years of crazyness. And THEN everyone around says they “saw it coming”. Too late then people, this guy is ticking RIGHT NOW in case you haven’t noticed!

  14. By SebastianCanada
    On July 18, 2010 at

Reta, I understand where you are coming from, but not every ranting drunk will turn into a homicidal maniac. One cannot even claim that every rabid ranting racist will turn into a homicidal maniac. Similarly, one cannot say that every zealot, of whatever religion, will end up a terrorist.

You cannot go out on any street and swing a dead cat without hitting several people who were raise by ranting, raging alcoholics. Is it an ideal situation? Of course not. Is it the end of the world? No. Millions of people in human history have survived much much worse.

    Have some perspective.

Wow, sounds like Robin has issues of her own, what an enabler. She seriously still wants to help him? I’d help him under a bus …

  16. By Reta
    On July 18, 2010 at

Sebastian: I DO have perspective…It’s called life and no my dad didn’t do any of those things either, but being a raging drunk was bad enough just that alone and Mel is definitely THAT. It damages a child more than you’ll ever know.

And Palermo, I agree with you completely…she IS enabling him, and usually that is exactly what drunks have people around them do. Family, wives, girlfriends, children, neighbors, co-workers. If you’re not doing something to help them STOP, then you are enabling them.

I’ll go hail the nearest bus now…

Mel’s problems will follow him they always have! Robyn has taken his “Tiger Woods” behavior for too many years and has been an emotionally abused wife. Now Mel needs her and she comes running! Mel Gibson and anyone that is attached to him is stupid!

Mel is Robyn’s meal ticket…plain and simple. Their divorce is not final, and she gets half of whatever he has, and if she tells the truth about what kind of person he truly is (and there is no way he’s not abusive to everyone) then her meal ticket is diminished. Can’t wait for one of his kids to eventually write a tell-all. Mel thinks anyone who isn’t a catholic is going to hell…even his wife. There is no way this man wasn’t a tyrant at home. And if he never physically abused any of his children, it’s because his enabling wife stood between him and them.

    On July 19, 2010 at

I feel that Robyn is telling the truth and Mel has sooo destroyed his life and marriage that he just can’t control his self. As a man, I put myself in his positive and I have 7 kids with a woman and just up and leave her for some younger woman and reality hits you’re more mad at yourself and her. Because you know all she care about is the money.

Yea! Mel is taking my advice and going back to Oz to stay out of the glare of Hollywood (and hopefully keep his fat trap shut). Now Mel, stay there at least 5 years and maybe things will get better for you. I’m sure if you want to invest in movies behind the scene you can still produce and pull strings, but just stay out of the spotlight. Shut Up. Go Away. And maybe if you’re lucky you’ll get a tattered career back. Idiot.

Reta, the point is that, yes Mel has some sort of substance abuse problem, yes he is an A-hole, yes he is a racist, misogynist, anti-Semite. There is some questionable evidence that he is a a spouse-abuser (with Oksana). That is a lot, but that is all.

Mel’s problems or transgressions should be dealt with on a case-by-case basis, in the appropriate forums. If he is dysfunctional, then it is up to the people around him to decide to cut him out of their lives. If he commits a crime, then it is the domain of the police and the court system. One detail should not be held up as evidence that Mel is a monster and should be locked up forever.

There is a tendency these days to go on witch hunts and want to officially persecute people for simply being rotten. It is a slippery slope. Political Correctness started this thinking – it is a poison in our culture now.

This relates to what I have said in other posts. Most of Mel’s problems should be addressed within his social circle. his friends, relatives and associates should be smacking him on the hand. Too often though people do not want to participate in that form of social control, and then others want to impose laws.

    That is frightening.

I am not surprised. She stuck with him for almost 30 years and put up with his drunken antics and trysts. I do believe that she does love him very much and think that she is fine with going to these lengths in order to be with him again AND save him from HIMSELF! He has his Malibu properties on the market, and will surely move back to Australia with robyn and some of their kids.

Robyn has nothing to gain or lose when making the comment about Mel being a wonderful father. I don’t think she’s lying at all.

In retrospect, he left her for a younger woman, you’d think that she’d spew out a plethora of insults and damaging comments to stick it into both of them. But she didn’t even though if she did, I wouldn’t blame her. She’s too damn classy for someone like him.

I don’t believe this Oksana chick. Her inconsistent stories don’t make any sense and if you really want to follow this story accurately TMZ is flawless in that regard. Her dentist that initially claimed she was abused has now come forward and said that she wasn’t. Now some LAPD sources are claiming the tapes may be doctored??? Hmmm…
And to make matters worse, she never reported the “abuse” to the police when it happened. So six months later she’s running to the cops and the press with tapes and pics. Fishy.

Before anybody screams that I’m biased or wrong or whatever, the main issue I have with this is that she undermines real domestic violence victims. It’s women like this that makes the real victims’ stories seem questionable. The truth will eventually come out.

    On July 19, 2010 at

Sebastian, I don’t think Mel should be locked up forever either. He hasn’t killed anybody (yet). As for the people around him cutting him out of their lives, he says on one of those tapes that she is his only “friend” which must be shocking to his ex-wife, espiecially if she IS asking him to come back there.

Jeannified: There is only one kid left at home with Robyn, a 11 year old boy. I don’t think ANY child should be exposed to Mel right now until he gets whatever is wrong with him under control. He may very well be dangerous, and at the very least, he IS emotionally dangerous to anyone exposed to his mercurial personality extremes. A pre-teen boy should NOT be taking in a father figure who abuses women (his mother by cheating on her AND Oksana). He is far too impressionable at this stage in life and Mel is such a strong personality. Who knows what the boy has already witnessed, but he should NOT be exposed to any more of his unstable father. The children should be coming first in all of this. BELIEVE ME; a drunkard parent can damage a child in so many ways and so deeply it is just beyond mind boggling.

  29. By Sally
    On July 19, 2010 at

Reta, a drunkard damages everyone around him not just his family. Sadly I think all of these people Mel, his wife, Oksana, and all involved are deeply damaged.

captain america…Mel never married Oksana; he’s still legally married to Robyn. And what most people don’t realize is that for much of their relationship Oksana was Mel’s mistress. They didn’t live together and she was kept “in the shadows,” identified as an artist signed to Mel’s record label. Once Oksana got pregnant and Robyn filed for divorce Oksana became Mel’s “official girlfriend.” My take on this is that Mel viewed her as a “side piece” and never meant for them to be a “real couple” but was forced into that situation because of the baby. For whatever reason (alcoholism?, mental instability?) he’s unable to take responsibility for his actions and is blaming Oksana for everything, hence his anger towards her.

The people, on this blog, who defend his actions with: ‘he should just leave’, ‘give him another chance’ or ‘his actions were provoked’ are the most frightening aspect to this Mel Gibson story.
You are the ones who are the neighbors of the abusers who would state, “Well, I never saw it coming”. Truly, the ones without morals!

I disagree. The first time he cheated on her, she should have kicked him to the curb (that would have decades ago). I am not implying that someone shouldn’t be forgiven. However, you know this woman has had to put up with a crapload of unnessary shit from ole Mel. The drinking, the women, the racist attitude, the controling attitude and then having to take care of a house full of children. Good grief, I bet she is on medication.
