Her friends are worried about her new relationship with this guy who calls himself Stephen Belafonte. One friend who really cares about Mel confided, “Some of us get the feeling he’s a phoney and we don’t trust him. We don’t even think that’s his real last name. If you try to check him out – he has no history before 2004. He used to hang out in clubs and never had any money. We’re afraid he’s WAY too interested in that Spice money!” Her friends don’t want to upset Melanie, but they’re keeping an eye on the guy.

Im shocked. I DATED Stephen in LA. It doesn’t suprise me that he has a whole other name. He was always shady. Never would give details on his family, childhood, how he got into the business. He also tried to hide that he had a kid with an ex he was still banging…and he expected me to be ok with that and just keep sleeping with him. He’s a con.

Why do people never check facts about people in LA. You show up and just make up a name. His last name IS Stansbury, his mom lives in Memphis. He is a CON. Remember the guy who claimed he was a Hearst…this will turn out to be the same story. It is amazing that he has gotten as far as he did, but that is what happens when you are a professional con man.
Yes, I predict disaster also. Usually scammers and abusers convince the victim that their family and friends are not good for them. You know jealous, dont want to see them happy, etc. This happened to a friend of mine, and she lost her child dealing with a loser. I hope Melanie wakes up soon.

Melanie Brown has some serious self-esteem problems and she hardly knows this man! The same with Eddie Murphy..having unprotected sex and getting pregnant by him only 3 months after dating, plus he was fresh from a divorce and was on the rebound. She has some serious issues to be worked out. She should think of her children and be ALONE for awhile. She seems very, very impulsive.
As for the “nappyheaded” child that someone mentioned earlier – that is her 8 year daughter Phoenix, and curly is the best description of her hair.
This man has no relation to Harry Belafonte or the Belafonte family, and she will pay the price for yet another fiasco. She needs to get into theraphy and work out her low self-esteem and neediness issues.
I think people should mind their business and get a life! Who does not have skeltons? and never the less, you have to give the poor man some credit of going out with a person who is still breast feeding.
