And he’s keeping the kids involved in his treatment – Michael brought them to the hospital to watch him get zapped with radiation. Now if he’s “tired,” they understand. He’s lost weight, but Michael remains upbeat – he says his tumor is responding well to treatment. He’ll have to plump up for his upcoming role as Liberace – due to film next year with Matt Damon as his lover.

I truly hope he beats this thing. But when you smoke, drink, cheat for decades, it all catches up to you sooner or later.

To elaborate: My cousin was the kindest most generous person alive, but he smoked from age 14 to about 45, about 2 1/2 packs a day. He died at age 47 of severe enphysema with an oxygen tank carried everywhere. Consequences of bad choices when young.

Talk about mis-casting! HIM as Liberace??? NO way! Not even close! I don’t care what they do to him, it won’t work! And Matt Damon, no way either. I remember the lover Liberace had, and he didn’t look anything LIKE Damon. What’s wrong with the casting agents today, have they given up trying alltogether?
It was Dave Letterman’s show where Douglas first talked about it and he was thin and already a bit frail looking. You could tell when he first walked out and across the stage that he was weaker than usual and his clothes looked borrowed and large on him, so he’s already lost weight and he wasn’t heavy to begin with. His hair looks much thinner already too. He DID say he brought it on himself with years of smoking and drinking. The cancer is at the base of his tongue, a very bad place, and it wasn’t caught in the early stages. I don’t know what they do for someone under those circumstances, if the chemo and radiation doesn’t get it. But he did say that so far, it hadn’t seemed to spread. Hope not for his very young children’s sake. Reminds me again why having children at a later stage in life is not always a good idea, and really, selfish. When you start to fall apart, you put your young children thru hell, then leave them without you. Bogie’s young son comes to mind. He wrote a very well written book about his father that really brought it home, losing a parent at a young age like that. Very sad.
As you recall this is the same thing that got Sammy Davis Jr. They didn’t caught it and he smoked like chimney and drank like a fish. This does not look good for Michael.
Very sad news for Michael Douglas. I agree with the poster who said he should not be playing the role of Liberace. Catherine Zeta Jones looks a little tired in this photo. She’s drop-dead gorgeous, so I have to assume the cancer treatments and stress of the disease are getting to her, too. Old men have no business fathering children and young women should pick men their own age. It’s so unfair to the children.
I understand she fell in love with “him” and he her, you’ can’t help who you fall in love with, and of course, she being a young woman with no children when they married, would WANT to have her own kids, it’s just sad that she picked a man who had lived life so fully and detrimentally to his health to father them. The children pay in the end for his drinks and smoking for all those years. Seems like his first son Cameron, who is in jail right now for selling drugs and being a druggie, isn’t the only casualty of his fathers lifestyle choices.
You wonder if she was son dumb not to know the camera was shooting up her skirt!
Smoking is really the worst thing on planet earth for the body. I don’t know of anyone who smokes and walks away without health problems. I know a few functioning alkies who are fine, but not smokers. They all hack, can’t walk up stairs without gasping for air or have some kind of cancer. It should be illegal. If you drink in moderations you’ll be fine.
