MICHAEL MADSEN: THIS IS WHAT SUBSTANCE ABUSE CAN DO TO YOU

We recall the first time we saw Michael Madsen in the early 90’s in “Thelma & Louise” – he was spectacular as an Elvis-lookalike tough guy with a heart of gold. He went on to do movies like “Reservoir Dogs” and “Kill Bill” plus the fabulous “Species” series. What happened? This week he was arrested after a confrontation with his teenage son where he took away the kid’s marijuana. He was described by police as “intoxicated.” Madson has had other embarrassing incidents involving substance abuse over the past few years. But this mug shot startled us – it rivals Nick Nolte’s. Michael Madsen is blonde? – apparently he’s Scandinavian and his sister Virginia Madsen is blonde too. Little did we know….

  1. His sister Virginia played Maya in “Sideways” – this story is very sad.

  2. I’m always flabbergasted that so many people who are successful doing what they love to do, would destroy their lives with drugs. They are overpaid (in Madsen’s case, overpaid enough to live in Malibu), are catered to in public & have the world on a string. Why not get high on all the perks the life of a successful entertainer have to offer, things most people would love to experience even a small part of, but never have the chance. He is not a super star, but apparently he has had a good ride and show business has been kind & generous to him. If only he could see his life from the outside looking in, he might be more grateful to the powers of the great universe for all they have given him & count his blessings.

  3. The blonde hair sucks on him (IMHO). Still, he is a fine actor. I actually read some of his poetry awhile back. Talented guy.

He used to be married to Georganne LaPiere (Cher’s half sister) a long long time ago.

  4. They should tape Dad’s mug shot to the son’s wall under the heading, “this is the future you on drugs”. That should put and end to any substance abuse.

  5. get a grip you people. Substance abuse hits all people, addiction doesn’t discriminate from rich or poor. Hollywood is a classic example

  6. I think that a lot of substance abusers who have had success in the industry may have always felt something missing inside, and then they, too, found out that even achieving fame and money and career won’t solve that, and “look in all the wrong places,” so to speak. I agree with @reason, substance abuse happens to people across the board, all socioeconomic strata and walks of life.
