Naomi Campbell’s arrogance and self-interest seems to have no bounds. The gorgeous supermodel is already disliked for her petulant temper tantrums – now she’s been caught lying in court. She whined about how “inconvenient” it was because she was forced to testify at the war crimes trial of Charles Taylor, the former president of Liberia accused of atrocious war crimes. Prosecutors are trying to prove Taylor’s connection to “blood diamonds” that funded the civil war that left 100,000 dead. In 1997 Naomi was seated next to Taylor at a dinner hosted by Nelson Mandela and Taylor became smitten with the model. Later that night a pouch of diamonds was delivered to Naomi’s room. Campbell swore she didn’t know WHO sent them – and didn’t ASK the delivery people. Naomi bragged in court “ It’s not unusual for me to get gifts – I get them all the time, sometimes in the middle of the night.” Unfortunately for HER, two other people at that dinner remember things differently. Campbell’s former agent is set to testify that she heard Taylor tell Naomi that he was going to send her diamonds “and she seemed excited about it.” Another guest, Mia Farrow remembers Naomi telling her at breakfast the next day that Charles Taylor had sent her a huge diamond. The prosecution hopes their testimony will link Taylor to the diamonds in question. It certainly looks like Naomi Campbell lied under oath.

Wow, there are a lot of nasty haters. What has Campbell done to warrant such contempt (and, no, I do not believe for one second that anyone of you is incensed about the blood diamond scandal).
I am hardly a fan of Campbell, but I do know that, even once she had gained supermodel status she was still being treated like crap because she was not just black, but a darker-skinned girl and did not have light-coloured eyes (she was not a “House N___” or “yellow”, as some Afro-Americans would say).
I have to wonder if some of the hate on this post is coming from the same place – that people are hostile towards her because she is really black and made it. How dare she! How dare you???

Kylie that is crap. People in the know, people who were there at fitting, at fashion shows, in the business (other models for example) have confirmed that Campbell was sometimes treated badly. And, BTW, Campbell has always been pushed to the background, particularly by the American industry and media – she has never received the credit and acclaim the other supermodel (Evangelista, Turlington, Crawford) have.
I am not saying that Campbell’s bad behavior is justified or easy to rationalize. However, I can understand that, when someone is at the top of her profession, and still gets treated badly because of her race, that that can trigger serious anger issues.
Sebastian, I am all for protecting anyone who has been mistreated over race issues, but I think you’re REALLY wrong here. First of all, she is NOT all that “dark” as you say she is. Just look at that picture above…this is NOT a dark black person, quite the contrary in fact. Tyra is pale, Naomi is the slightest bit darker than that but still light and I’m sure has a LOT of “white” bloodlines in her background. There’s really no such thing as a purely black person any more unless you go to certain areas of Africa.
I’ve NEVER heard anyone make an issue of her race being a problem before, in fact it might have actually been of benefit to her because of her exotic looks. She’s one of the most famous and top models of the world, so I wouldn’t say she has suffered because she is black. I don’t think there is any such thing any more. If you’re an attractive girl, and the right height and stature, your color won’t matter at all. There are all types of models today and there is even a very very dark model from Africa who is gorgeous and very exotic who does very well in that world.
PS…in fact tacking a parting look at this picture again, she looks like a white girl with a slight tan with one of those padded butt undergarments on!
