While watching the delicious HBO movie “Behind the Candelabra” we were struck by the similarities between Liberace’s relationship with Scott Thorson, and Calvin Klein’s relationship with Nick Gruber. It’s the SAME story without the mink and rhinestones! Not long ago, Nick was shopping around a book about their time together and we managed to learn many of the details. Both Nick and Scott grew up in foster homes and were young and naïve when they met their celebrity boyfriends-to-be. Both Liberace and Calvin showered gifts upon their lovers- jewelry, designer clothing, and cars. (Which they eventually took BACK.) Liberace and Calvin both talked about “adopting” their boyfriends and they both had large and sometimes unusual, sex appetites. Both urged their lovers to take diet pills and had plastic surgery with them. Both young men eventually felt “trapped” like birds in a gilded cage, and turned to drugs. Drug use got both boyfriends kicked out and left stranded. Nick, who also claims to be bisexual, ALMOST followed in Scott’s footsteps and published his book, but last we heard he and Calvin were back together and on vacation.

And we all know how Liberace’s story ended and now Scott Thorson is in the same sort of situation. There’s a moral to this story folks, and it ain’t no fairytale. OR is it?
After watching the HBO show last night and getting the sads on the second half, I had forgotten that Scott was only 17 at the time of the meeting and tossed out by the time he was 22. I know it happens all the time but it does not make it ok.
Does he get a boner that it is Calvin tossing his salad? Or does he take pills for looking at decrepit Calvin tossing his salad? At least women get a house of it, these toyboys need to get their game up and get some type of home, condo a guarantee of paying taxes for 20 years for all this debauchery.

I can see taking back the car which would be in the giver’s name, but the clothes and jewelry? Forget the clothes, and if Scott or Nick had any sense, the jewelry would go missing from the car during a burglary.

What Janet conveniently ignores is the predatory way that many gay men have on younger, even under age, gay males. As a gay man myself, I have seen my fellow elder gay men prey on younger men and it’s quite despicable besides illegal. I know many try to glamorize the gay lifestyle but there is nothing glamorous about it. It’s a very destructive lifestyle where mental disease is rampant. But Janet won’t tell you that because Janet is a disingenuous liar who covers up for destructive gay men.
Not only mental disease but the spreading of aids is still rampant. The rainbow flag should be hauled down.
I said I wouldn’t watch this movie but we just switched cable companies so we have free HBO. I did watch it and wished I didn’t. The whole thing was too over the top. Liberace’s “voice”, the mincing around, way too much nudity and sex scenes. It’s pedophilia at a minimum. He used that poor guy and then wanted his company when he was dying. On a positive note Rob Lowe was brilliant.
REALLY don’t appreciate the homophobic comments–Liberace was Liberace. For God’s sake, he thought he was the reincarnation of King Ludwig of Bavaria! And Calvin Klein has ALWAYS been a self-absorbed Freak Show. Calm down people. They don’t represent all gay people. Much like the Kardashians don’t represent all deranged straight people.
It was so much better than I imagined it would be ..I’m probably going to watch it a bunch of times

Queereye needs to find better friends. And he needs therapy. To write off the gay population because of a few bad apples that he chooses to associate with is wrong and homophobic. Queereye is gay and queer and there is a difference. He is queer because he is self hating and cannot accept his sexuality and blaming it on the few who give the gay population a bad name. Of course, Jerry Lee Lewis “married” his underage niece so does that make all straights mental, too?
I think QE is more accurate than the swishing bunch of gays that think they can behave as they like and protest when they are called out. They introduced aids to America and then squeal for help.
