OSCAR WINNER SPOTLIGHT IS A TRIBUTE TO JOURNALISTS AND FREEDOM OF THE PRESS

What fun it was on the red carpet at the Academy Awards this afternoon! We appeared again this year gossiping about the Oscars for ZDF German TV. The adorable Florian Weiss hosted the segment and conducted the interview while handsome cameraman Thomas Jacobi filmed the proceedings. We were surrounded by interviews being done in every language imaginable. One thing for sure – German people love Hollywood and gossip! We were disappointed that Brooklyn didn’t win Best Picture but we love the winner, Spotlight, because journalists are the heroes for a change.

  1. That’s a very odd color of hair. It looks like the color of steam dried noodles. Where can one find it?

  2. Investigative journalism in the US is DEAD and DONE; it went straight into the ground–freefall–along with the particulate matter that formerly was the World Trade Center on 9-11-01.

But Spotlight works as a kind of window-dressing. Bit like shooting fish in a barrel though, wasn’t it? The systemic, near-ritualized sexual abuse of minors by the, ahem, “ladies” (both male and female) of the Roman Catholic Church was hardly breaking news.

The little wake-up call depicted in Spotlight was the establishment saying, “Hey, ease up a bit–and put up for sale some of that multimillion dollar property you’re squatting on.”

And after a last minute switchover from ugly, nasty-looking pope–to grinning, user-friendly, drives a little Fiat-pope, it’s back to business as usual. “Business” being the operative word.
