PAUL HAGGIS IS GETTING FEEDBACK AFTER QUITTING SCIENTOLOGY

And so it begins….Paul Haggis says he has been getting lots of emails after that recent New Yorker Scientology expose in which he talked about quitting Scientology after decades as a member of the cult. He expected a strong reaction. He says many communications are supportive, but others “break his heart” or make him “very angry.” So far, no serious threats. He has no regrets about leaving Scientology (which he now calls a cult) so publicly – he couldn’t tolerate their gay-bashing and mistreatment of members.

Really enjoyed reading about his background and upbringing, which was Catholic—until his mother observed that their parish priest was driving a Cadillac. She asked him why, and his reply, “Because God wants me to,” was what caused their family to leave the church; with Paul eventually embracing Scientology.

Organized religion—of whatever variety—exists only because of man’s insatiable desire to micro-manage, i.e., CONTROL others.

I wouldn’t be surprised that one of these days he goes missing and just disappears. I would be extrememly cautious if I was him. I don’t trust those scientology cult people. They give me the creeps. Why would anyone that can read and do the research on this cult ever want to be a part of it? It is a cult formed to make money. Nothing more than that.

it’ll be interesting to see what the FBI’s investigation finds. I need to read that NYTimes article. I’m almost afraid to, tho, cause I think it’ll really piss me off…I hate cults and everything about them…

I read the article, and it was very unsettling, as well as enlightening. One thing I do find strange about Mr. haggis and his view on this “cult” is…….the fact that the only reason he is not involved in it anymore was because of the churches take on homosexuality. Does this mean he agrees with everything else but the homosexuality aspect that just so happens to involve his daughters?

Gee, I guess he wouldn’t like this website either, huh Janet? There’s more intolerance and bashing here than anywhere!

Well, I went and read that article, and must say it made me think of old L.Ron as very good talking used car salesman who could most like talk you out of your house and wife and kids too. Those “levels” they speak of are nothing more than hypnotism, brainwashing. They have to do it over and over because you may wake up someday and figure our you’ve been taken to the cleaners by a scam artist.
Whay amazes ME is that ANYbody falls for that crap, but then I see all the other religions and the hurt they have done all over the world including destroying entire cultures with their ‘superiority’.
I go along with Bill Mahar who says religions were started a very long time ago when humans were confused by everyday things and thought the sun and moon were Gods, and developed rituals around crops, fertility, protecting the homefronts.

I’d far rather go with the Celts who worshiped nature, than any of these war mongering “religions” we are stuck with today.

It was an excellent article. While I want to give Haggis full credit, it’s just impossible to believe that an intelligent person could be so devoted for so many years to a cult that is based on such RIDICULOUS stories. L.R. Hubbard made up all of them, just as he did all the sci-fi stories he wrote as a young man. When he found sci-fi didn’t pay, he invented a religion. Ch’ching!!

All organized religions are money-sucking cults; Catholicism, Mormonism, Christian Science, Jehovah’s Witlessness… they are all the same.

Scientology bashes gays? Funny, since Cruise and John Travolta are one of many gays; but then they are BIG bucks contributors, so I guess they get a pass. BTW, there are many more gay SCI members. This cult is the biggest and most mind-bending cult on earth.

There is a story on the web fromn SCI warning Paul to watch his back. They are unspeakably evil and will stop at nothing, esp. when a high-profile member quits. The cult is currently being investigated as to fraud, deaths, etc.

    Reta: THANK YOU!

We were talking about this insanity just today (saw a pic of Jenna Elfman on the side of a bus…think it was her…not quite an impressive “actor”). WHY? How could anyone with half a brain fall for this shit? WOW! Seriously: WOW!

OK, it’s one thing being stupid. It’s another to be part of a team that murders others! And if they don’t take you down, they’ll threaten, etc., etc.

We need a revolt against these dip asses NOW!

    I just can’t. Just can’t.

THIS is why I’m a misanthrope.

    But not you guys!!!!

The whole gay uproar was a red herring. Haggis has been trying to extricate himself from SCI for a long time, describing how he would give in to their frequent demands for money if only to get them to leave him alone.

SCI is OBVIOUSLY a cult, masquerading as some sort of self-help/self-actualization movement—”Dianetics”—otherwise, how could they entice people to dip that first toe in the pool?

One of their outposts is (or used to be) next door to the Paramount Hotel in NYC. One always had to run the gauntlet of their hawkers when walking by. Out of curiosity, I did happen to pick up a copy of “Dianetics” at one point.

And found—just as Paul Haggis has claimed—that it is an unreadable, incomprehensible mess. Pure gibberish.

I attribute its multi-millions of sales to people who were, like myself, merely curious about all the hype.

Luttuce: I’ll have some of what you’re smokin! And DON’T pass the Dianetics book on down the line unless you want to be wearing a rectangular smile…(not really, I couldn’t do that to YOU, but some of these others, well, yeah…)

PAUL HAGGIS HAD A LIFE BEFORE HIM and this man has moved on and just dropped it because it was lacking to some degree to stick around.

WHEN YOU QUIT SOMETHING THAT SIMPLY MEANS IT DOES NOT WORK AND THAT HE IS GOING ANOTHER DIRECTIONS WITH HIS LIFE AND HIS FUTURE AND I SAY GOOD FOR HIM AND…LOOK TO THE FUTURE WITHOUT SCIENTOLOGY.
