PROMETHEUS: TECHNOLOGY, YES, SCRIPT, NO!

We’re eager to hear what readers who saw “Prometheus” this weekend thought of it. We approached the movie eagerly with visions of the original “Alien” with Sigourney Weaver in our heads. In the years since the original Alien was made, technology has taken many steps forward and scriptwriting has taken many steps BACK. Sorry, dazzling technology is exciting, but it isn’t enough. We want characters we can identify with, a story, and intelligent dialog. Explosions and gory battles aren’t enough. Charlize Theron played an unexplained absurd villain and the rest of the space ship crew were the same generic characters you’ve seen many times before. Oddly, decent people were few and far between. When we walked out of the ear-splitting pointless extravaganza, we took off our 3D glasses, turned to our companion, and said “Why did we put ourselves through that – what’s wrong with us?”

  1. The original is my all time fave sci fi horror.
    I’m goin anyways.

  2. Save your money for a good movie Patrick, Rock of Ages” opens on Friday. It’s gonna be a gooder!!

  3. Janet who was your ‘companion’ ? Do tell….

  4. Muffie, Rock of Ages looks interesting, but I don’t think I could buy Tom Cruise as a rock star.

  5. I’m a punker, Muffie. You would have to drag me kicking and screaming to Rock of Ages.

  6. please go & join the lunatics of america.
    ….NO MONEY BACK GARANTEE!!

  7. It was beyond dumb; I could care less when any of characters died. The technology was good but really so what. I should have seen Snow White and the Huntsman?

  8. “To get nowhere, follow the crowd.”….Anonymous

  9. I saw the Huntsman AND Prometheus and of the two films, Prometheus was a better viewing.
I was anxiously waiting to see Prometheus since the trailers began running late last year and I was NOT disappointed.

Prometheus is a totally different film than Alien so if you go to the theater thinking this film would be alien redux, you will be disappointed.

Prometheus has flaws but my IMO lived up to my expectations.

As far as Ridley Scott and character development, he DID direct Thelma and Louise!

The guy is a freaking genius and I LOVE his films.

Thanks for posting your review. I think I will go see it with my honey this weekend. I was wanting to but hadn’t really heard anything one way or the other. 🙂

By the way, I am a Ridley Scott fan too. He’s producing a remake of “COMA” that I am dying to see. I enjoyed the original back in the 70’s so hopefully this one will be just as good or better.

  11. I enjoyed the film, walt although I admit the film begins dragging at a certain point but then picks up.

I did not enjoy the movie Aliens and I never bothered to see the last film with winona ryder or alien vs predator.

I think only the 1st film directed by Ridley Scott (ALIEN) is worthy of praise.

Prometheus is an inferior film than Alien but I do think it is worth seeing.
