RACHEL MCADAMS IS BELIEVABLE AS A REPORTER IN STATE OF PLAY

Rachel McAdams has been a little pouty lately but she actually has a lot to celebrate. Besides having a hot boyfriend – Josh Lucas - she has lots of movies coming out. This weekend “State of Play” opens and she more than holds her own with Russell Crowe. It’s a smart, entertaining movie and justifiably glamorizes the newspaper business. We love those hardworking reporters who dig deep for the truth.

This girl is totally forgettable, as well as the forgettable movies she is turning out.

Never mind about McAdams. I cannot believe that Russel Crowe is still starring in movies. Isn’t that guy pretty much box office poison? Also, he is getting porky and greasy like Alec Baldwin. The difference is that Baldwin has talent, wit and charm.

Oh, well — if you don’t want to see the latest comic book adaptation, there’s not much to choose from. That being said, I won’t rush to see a movie that laments the sad state of journalism. Like other failed institutions, newspapers lost their way when they became: (1) owned by a few; (2) obsessed with profit; and (3) turned a blind eye to the abuses of government and power. The last time I remember ever seeing the establishment press go after the truth was at least a decade ago — when every newspaper and broadcast entity was hot on the trail of Monica’s soiled dress.
