SEQUINS AND BUGLE BEADS

CherAuction
The Cher auction is all anyone in LA is talking about these days. Friday through Monday all her dark gothic furniture, art, costumes, and memorabilia are on display at the Beverly Hilton Hotel and admission is FREE ! Curators told us the Bob Mackie costumes were stimulating the most interest. He had been storing them all through the years for Cher. Everything from her Laverne leopard TV outfit to the skimpy black sequin g-string she wore in the navy boat video, plus assorted sequin belly button covers from the early years were on display. Most surprising was the level of misbehavior of fans and looky-loos. The curators were afflutter trying to stop teenagers from jumping on Cher’s bed, families lounging on velvet couches, men from putting their feet up on her desk, and EVERYONE from fingering her costumes and trying to see if they’d fit. A giddy man was caught moving a form so he could stand behind it and his friend could take a picture with his head on top of a dress. Not a lot of respect – but tons of fun.

  1. Not a lot of respect – but tons of fun.
It does sound like fun and if i lived around there i would go and buy something.

  2. I just love Cher gossip. What is new is her life? Janet why do you write about young people? Your readers want news about the real stars. Any stories on Dixie Carter? How about Kathie Lee?

  3. She could do a variety show again. And it would work.
There’s enough boomers who would watch!
Mostly the brainless Oprah/Dr. Phil housecat types. But still.
    They are legion!

  4. I remember that outfit shown
in the photo. It was scandalous in it’s time.
Now it’s the norm to see
naked crotch flashes and staged nip slips. Disgusting!

Thinks it’s funny but it really is nothing but a bore.
Don’t hate Janet cause people don’t like your gossip page.
I love Cher and wish i could afford to buy something of hers.

  6. Now this is SHOWBIZ NEWS!!
Please keep up on this story, would love to go to the Beverly Hilton to see Cher’s stuff to be auctioned!
I am sure that the Bob Mackie outfits will do well.
I have met Bob Mackie at a Barbie show back in New Jersey in 1995. He autographed my Barbie Bob Mackie sketches that came with the dolls. I have alot of photos with him from that December 1995 show in Hasbrouck Heights, at the Holiday Inn.
Great time! And he packed ’em in!!

  7. Wish i could see the photos mariam. Sounds like a great time.

  8. I just called the Beverly Hilton hotel. The auction itself is today and tomorrow. Go bid and swing by Trader Vic’s for a mai-tai.
Bob Mackie is a lovely man, btw.
