Who knew Sid Vicious was a artist during his teen years? Art work created by the Sex Pistols icon when he was an art school student of 15 or 16 is being auctioned off at the Fame Bureau auction house in London. The collection of watercolors and sketches is in a book that he left with his late mother Anne Beverley. Anne never stopped trying to prove that her son was not guilty of murdering his girlfriend Nancy Spungen (photo above) in the Chelsea Hotel, but after Sid died at 21 of a heroin overdose, nobody bothered to reexamine the facts. Anne died in 1996 and these paintings went to the Sid Vicious estate.

Surprisingly good work from someone I have always perceived to have been a lousy bass player and buffoon.
He was definately cruised hard by Nancy. Much the same as Kurt Cobain was cruised by that harpy, what’s her name.
I like the art, but I don’t really think it’s any better than any of the stuff the rest of us were putting out in those days. It was a sign of the times, and we ALL basically recorded our world or what we wanted it to be in vivid incredibly moving shapes and patterns. This was drugs on canvas if you will, Andy Warhol and Peter Max made real names for themselves in the din of it all. A lot of us were ate up and swallowed. Some of us survived to look back in amazement.
I’m glad Sid was able to express himself to SOME degree before he exploded. As for Nancy, if I remember correctly she majorly OD’d as did he later on, so how was he responsible for HERS? Any more than how is Curt Cobain rsponsible for Courtney Love’s continuing downward spiral? You either get away from it and live or you go down with the ship. Easy enough to figure out. Not so easy to DO.
