SO LONG TO THE KING OF THE WILD FRONTIER!

“Born on a mountaintop in Tennessee…” – every kid had the words to the Davy Crockett theme song memorized back in the 50’s. And every kid insisted on having a Davy Crockett imitation coonskin hat – of course, the ones with rich parents had fringed jackets too. Every kid wanted to BE Davy Crockett. THAT’S how important Fess Parker was in his heyday. The Disney series was a huge hit and spawned the sale of vast quantities of Crockett related products, from puzzles to lunch boxes. The impressive 6’5” star of the show, Fess Parker, just rode off into the sunset at the age of 85.

  1. What a hunk! I bet all the mom’s were in love with him too. I always had a thing for Tonto when I was a little kid and to this day am still attracted to that look, the dark hair and the accents. Like Desi Arnaz too. Zexy!

  2. This is was a great time in American history. When television was family friendly and everyone watched the same programs. He was a good man and his show could never be a hit today. Boy have we sunk like a rock.

  3. Fess was one of the richest people in Hollywood, frommaking good business decisions.

  4. I loved this show as a kid. I can only sing a few words of the song. Our local retro television channel used to play Daniel Boone episodes and it was a hoot to see them again…Fess Parker, you rule(d)!

  5. I never saw one thing on the news about his death. I met Fess Parker at a rodeo in Shreveport, La. and got his autograph. Must’ve been back in the late 60’s or early 70’s. He was so nice and patient with all us kids. RIP Mr. Parker.
