SPIELBERG’S “WEST SIDE STORY” REMAKE: WE’RE NOT HOLDING OUR BREATH

That’s Steven Spielberg in the Hawaiian shirt directing dancers in his new version of West Side Story- about which we have mixed feelings. The original film was SO wonderful and successful (10 Oscars including Best Picture) in delicious TECHNICOLOR, (for those who remember)- what is the point of a remake? Can anyone ever top Bernardo (George Chakiris) with his pompadour and purple shirt? We have our doubts.

  1. Spielberg and his cronies are only interested in more cash.

  2. just NO….he needs to go away. isn’t he rich enough??
hey steve you can’t improve on perfection

  3. To Madge and AFFA81: I’m totally with you guys on this one. Spielberg has done some great films, but I just wish he’d never even started this one. As a devout fan of the original 1961 film version of West Side Story, I will vote my pocketbook and boycott Spielberg’s reboot/remake of this great, golden oldie-but-keeper of a classic movie-musical and not go to see it when it hits the movie theaters at around Christmastime of 2020.

The old, original 1961 film version of West Side Story is a beautiful film that won 10 well-deserved Academy Awards, including Best Picture when it came out into the movie theatres in the fall of 1961. There’s no sense in rebooting/remaking it.
