SPORTS ILLUSTRATED DIDN'T DO MICHAEL PHELPS ANY FAVORS

sportscutmichaelphl.jpg
Michael Phelps is everybody’s hero, but are we the only ones who admit that we think he looks like a supergeek on this Sports Illustrated cover? How could they do this to him? This photo will follow him for the rest of his life. To put it politely, it minimizes his attributes. The magazine bends over backwards to make sure their swimsuit models look good. They couldn’t give our Olympic paragon a break? We could take a better photo in our backyard.

  1. This is the same pose Mark Spitz did in 1972.
That’s why it was done this way!

  2. That’s because he is ugly, Janet. What other way are they going to pose him?

  3. Um, he always looks geeky to me. Truth in advertising. Maybe the outtakes were worse!
    ^..^

  4. Again who is WE. OUR backyard Please answer us Janet, who is WE? Your loyal readers want to know and your silence is suspicious.

  5. He is what he is. MP is not a “drop dead looking” guy like MS was.

  6. Have you heard this guy speak? He has about 50 less IQ points than forrest gump.

  7. Anonymous 6:07 PM. I thought so also….that he was a —shall we say—-slow thinker….like he can’t seem to answer questions in a strong manner. Maybe some water seeped into his brain. Anyhoo, every gold-digger ho within 100 miles will try to vamp him.

  8. He answered questions in a mature and polite way. He appeared to think before he spoke, which is most unusual these days with shouting talking heads on TV and celebutards who swear and say whatever popped into their empty heads. Congrats to Michael Phelps!

  9. Not over-Photoshopped or over-enhanced. Yay! Our nerdy athlete looks natural.

  10. I’m with you, Janet. I wouldn’t mind having him over to my backyard for an extended photo shoot. Or a few shoots. (Couldn’t resist).

  12. They should have photoshopped his head to make him appear more handsome (don’t think they don’t normally do this).
Also, everything about the pose-the lack of a shirt, the way he is holding his hands on his waist, the ugly red background is completely UGLY and unattractive.
The photo editor needs to be fired for screwing up so royally.

  13. He’s a star, and he looks like one. For god’s sake, why would anyone photoshop his natural face? He’s an athlete, not a Vogue model. Get over all of your superficial expectations.
This is PERFECTION in its human form.

  14. he always looks geeky to me

It is not about geeky…you empty headed fool..
Bet you run out of breath getting out of bed!

  15. Have you heard this guy speak? He has about 50 less IQ points than forrest gump.

He is one tree short of a hammock.. lucky he has a gift to swim

  16. He’s already done more than most of us could ever dream of accomplishing, what a nasty remark to comment on his looks. Shallow ass people

Yes they see that and knowing they will never
come close vent by posting vile.

  18. Yup, he’s got a total buttah face. That’s why I could care less about him. Sorry, he doesn’t hold my interest no matter what he can do.

  20. Give the kid a break. He is a fantastic athlete. He’s not putting himself out there to be evaluated on his looks. he’s not zac efron or the jonas brothers. pick on tom cruise, or will smith who want to be in the public eye, but phelps does not deserve criticism for looking the way he does. he oculd have many girls right now, so i’m sure it doenst bother him. i think he looks perfectly normal. it must be awkward being tall with a swimmer’s body. point being, he has not “hollywood” so its unfair to speak about him as if he was lindsay lohan. he is a legitimate athlete, and a good one, so the press should stick to that. call the olsen twins butterfaces. Fine. they put themselves out there to be photographed in outfits and make the gossip columns. this guy does not.

  21. Congratulations! to Michael for all he accomplished. He’s a good looking guy with lots of talent, lots of gold medals and the envy of so many like the ones here who are so green green with envy.

Since we know you don’t have any medals..
please put an address where we can see what
YOU like…lets see if you have the guts!

  23. Next on his agenda: The cover of “Inbreeding Monthly” magazine.

  24. Next on his agenda
    ^^^
Will be to win more metals at the next Olympics.
While you will still be posting on gossip boards.

  25. What is a “butterface”? I’ve never heard that term before.

  26. America really needs to stop hating on the greatest Olympian of all times. I mean seriously is this what we have come to in America!!! Get a life a give the man his probs for doing what none of us can do!!!!

  27. They posed this photo to resemble Mark Spitz’s cover since he bested Spitz’s records, which is kind of cool. I like the fact that he looks like a normal, nerdy guy, I’m a photographer and I’m sick to death of normal looking people being photoshopped to death. At any rate, he is a good role model for “nerds.”
