STALLONE WANTS VIGGO TO PLAY EDGAR ALLEN POE
Sylvester Stallone has been TALKING about doing a movie on the life of Edgar Allen Poe for decades and it looks like he’s finally going to pull it off. Sly wrote his own script on the American writer’s madly tortured life and mysterious death in 1849, and he plans to direct the movie, but NOT star in it. First, Sly considered Robert Downey Jr for the lead. But he ended up offering it to Eastern Promises star Viggo Mortensen. Viggo DID ask for a few script changes, but it looks like it might happen.

Janet, it is surprising to hear that Stallone can write. I often picture him being totally illiterate. Are you sure about the veracity of this claim?

The picture of Poe looks like a young Bill Murray with a moustache.

Yo, Sly, I’m a big fan or yours, and have been ever since the smash hit “Rocky”. However, even tho Viggo is a great actor, I don’t think this movie will be a box office hit. Could be wrong, just a feeling.

It’s Edgar Allan Poe, not Allen.

Viggo Mortensen is a great actor, but Sean Penn would be a better choice. Sean Penn is also a great actor and looks more like Poe that Mortensen.

I don’t know if this has been suggested, but I think that Bill Murray would be an excellent choice to play Edgar Allen Poe. I think that their facial features are more alike, and with a little make-up and hair color, Bill Murray would look JUST like Edgar. Just my opinion. I also think that with Bill Murray playing Poe, people would be more interested in going to the theatres to watch it. It could possibly be a role that he would be interested in as well. I have no problem with Viggo Mortensen, I just think that he doesn’t look worn and emotionally disturbed enough to play the part.
