STILL CRUISIN’: THE VILLAGE PEOPLE

Was there EVER a disco group more fun than The Village People? Last time we saw them, they were opening for Cher at the Hollywood Bowl, and a hard act to follow. Members have changed through the years but lead singer/songwriter Victor Willis, 65, is back and they’ve resumed touring. Willis left his successful group in the early 80’s and wrestled with a drug problem on the streets of San Francisco, (In his heyday he was married to Phylicia Rashad!) He cleaned up in 2007 and eventually his beloved “Cop” returned to the group. New members include Chad Freeman (Cowboy,) James Kwong (construction worker) Angel Morales (Indian) and JJ Lippold (Leather Man.)

  1. Shame on you, racist Janet! It’s a Native American, not an Indian. I’m not sure if the stuff you post on this website is just ignorance or veiled racism.

  2. Get over yourself, Cheerio. The character has always been referred to as “Indian.” Janet is not racist. Save your outrage for a real racist, like your president.

  3. Bam, it’s 2019, that character is clearly not from India or he would be wearing a sari. Read some of Janet’s other posts about blacks and then tell me if Janet might have racist views.

Why do you bring trump into this? He has nothing to do with this conversation.

  4. Too bad David Hodo, the original Construction Worker, wasn’t there. He was an awesome performer, but seems to have left the group in 2013. I’m a little biased–he went to my high school in a very hillbilly part of California.

  5. They have aged liked the rest of us. They’ve shrunk, lost hair, gained weight and not as entertaining as the originals.

Phylicia Rashad…..I bet she could tell some stories. Isn’t her sister Debbie Allen? Didn’t Debbie come out as gay or bi?
