Disco DID die this week First, Donna Summer, and now Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees. The Bee Gees sweet uplifting falsettos brought disco to its peak in 1980 in the movie Saturday Night Fever – a film that will forever celebrate the essence of disco. Theirs was one of the top grossing music groups of all time. Robin suffered for years from cancer and intestinal problems. It must have been horrible for him to watch his twin brother Maurice die after his own intestinal surgery in 2003. Now Barry Gibb is the last surviving Bee Gee. Patrick, I saw them in concerts several time over the years. Actually met Barry and Maurice in Miami at different times (both times were at restaurants and they were leaving). Both were so nice and good natured. Barry’s wife was drop dead gorgeous.
Hopefully the old saying, “bad things happen in 3’s” doesn’t come into to effect.
I used to listen the Saturday Night Fever LP on my beloved ladybug record player, over and over again. I absolutely loved and adored the Bee Gees. I had a mega-crush on Barry. Now, not so much! Hahaaaaaa
Walt, it was an excellent concert in 1974 for a 13 year olds initiation into the live music scene.In just a couple of years their sound changed seismically and so did my tastes in music. I tentavely observed the Disco era from the Pink Floyd, YES, Genesis, Who, Skynyrd side of the fence so it wasn’t for me. But years later when I started up my D.J. sidegig it was always on the “can’t fail” menu for a nights dancing.
But hey, when we were young, dropping some paper and cruising the disco joints for bar stars was great and often hilarious, surreal sport. Also the birth of awesome club sound systems.My dad loved the Bee Gees of that era. Those were the days…. I’d go back in a minute.

I was sad to read this, but not surprised. I have loved the Bee Gees’ music since I was a teenager, way back when, and when Maurice died, of course, that was the end of the music for them. I still have my albums and such, so I can enjoy the music and remember a happier time. RIP, Robin.

I too met Barry Gibb and his wife.Barry’s wife is absolutely NOT drop dead gorgeous.Sorry to say,but she kind looks like a witch with a hooked nose.
Loved their older stuff. UGH Janet, that photo is an unfortunate reminder of that horrible Sgt. Pepper movie. Absolutely dreadful even though I had a major crush on Peter Frampton. The only saving grace was Aerosmith and the fabulous Billy Preston.
Hey dark sided, Isn’t that what makes the world go around? Everyone doesn’t have to agree. His wife, Linda, use to Miss Edinburgh (Scotland) in 1969 I believe. They married back in 1970.

Didn’t Saturday Night Fever come out in 1977 or ’78?
And we still remember seeing the Bee Gees for the first time on American Bandstand—with the recently late Dick Clark. Their huge hit at the time was Jive Talkin’—which was dwarfed in a few short years by SNF. Those were good times.
Inquiring Mind, Yup, Saturday Night Fever was released in mid-December 1977. 🙂
I loved their “Main Course” album (Jive Talkin, Wind of Change, Nights on Broadway, Baby as you Turn Away). It’s one of my top ten favorite albums.
Those were truly good times and great music.
