We had to snicker when we heard that Gordon Ramsay became furious when he and Victoria Beckham had lunch at Gjelina restaurant in Venice and they refused to change her order to suit her. Victoria ordered smoked trout salad but asked for it with dressing on the side. The waiter explained they have a strict policy of “no changes or substitutions” clearly stated on the menu. (We can imagine apoplectic Ramsay sputtering “Do you know who we ARE?”) Ramsay could NOT get his way, and the salad was served dressed. Later a restaurant spokesperson said: “It’s that sense of entitlement – it has to stop. We have a policy and don’t make substitutions. It doesn’t matter if you are famous or you have allergies. Gordon Ramsay should know better.”

any family joint where I live would served you that way without issue. If this place is so pricy, then it should be able to handle a simple request like this. I would be offended if they told me they could not do so. maybe being preggo, she was concerned the dressing would make her nausated. I had this issue myself when pregnant. I am not a fan of this people-but the request was not out of line.

The Japanese have a saying for it “Customer is God”. And if this place wants to still be trading in a years time, it would be in their interests to listen to this.

They should be glad that celebrities would want to eat there, doesn;t look that flash of a place to me, very uninviting – and now so is the service. And I thought America wait staff survived on keeping the customer happy and well served – a custom foreign within my country (having to tip everybody…..)

Guess there will be a “For Lease on this building in the near future”.

I don’t see this as a change or substitution. If she requested a different fish or another ingredient change, that is one thing. But simply asking for dressing on the side so she could control the amount is reasonable. We do it all the time and have never had a problem. Dressing is usually high in fat and she may have wanted to control her portion. When I was pregnant salad dressing always made me sick due to the high fat content. I had to order (substitute) the fat free version to avoid being ill.

I’ll side with this anorexic joyless cretin and the philandering jerk chef on this issue.

Putting dressing on the side is not substituting or changing much of anything. Please. They’ll get there monied friends to stay away from this place.

I’m not a fan of either of them but the restaurant has poor service for sure. I never ever order a salad without the dressing on the side. This is such a common request. How ballsy of them to not honor Posh’s wish.

On the other hand, I can’t stand Gordon Ramsay. If the staff wanted to serve his meal on the bathroom floor, I would be satisfied. lol

That lady is so Beautiful she should have what she wants and if she is paying for it..Why not get the Dressing on the side and that is really simple but on the other hand..If something is made the way it is made..Then I understand that factor but it is his place and he can do whatever he wants and He is the Boss and no one tells the boss what to do.

For me it is about pleasing each and every person that walks throw the door and making sure they want ot come back and visit again and losing a person is like taking money out of my pocket and that one person can get the word around to other people and there fore you start to lose money and that can effect the business and that is something that will effect my living and other issues in hand.

Yes when there is no change to the menu and you don’t allow people to pick what they like and how they want it put together then a standard is set and let me make a joke [Even at Burger King you can have it your way. Lets roll with the facts some people like the dressing on the side for a reason..The Salad Stay more Crispy and you can Dip the Dressing in the part of the Salad that you want to get wet and this little sweet ladies want to keep an eye on there weight and they may want half the dressing on there salad?

Dear Gordon Ramsay your so hard headed and that is what your sign is all about..It is your way or the Highway or they have to get lost or leave you alone and of course it is great that you run to reduce your stress but on the other hand there are so many stupid dumb people around that are truly air head and full of hot air but that lady only wanted the dressing on the side and I understand and respect your policy and that is fine and great and wonderful and but on the other hand this little lady is not coming back and she is going to take her friends with her and that is not good and worth while.

Well I guess this is a year of firsts for Gordon. First mistress comes out, wife’s family taking legal action, photos of him at a hair plug clinic, gets dissed at a restaurant, owes the tax man a boat load of moola, and much more I am sure!!

Hey Casonia Logenberry, I cannot determine if you are for or against. For goodness sakes, it’s just a dam salad.

  20. By Elle

If this was a green salad then dressing on the side should have been no problem. A smoked trout salad might be something they make in batches, however. Like shrimp or crab salad. If that was the case it might not be doable. The restaurant may not happen to have extra smoked trout, or might be out of other ingrediants, and therfore be unable to produce the customized dish.

Furthermore, as a restaurant employee, I know that during peak hours, staff is often already working at capacity. To pull a line cook to create a customized dish (i.e. an undressed seafood salad) can put unneccessary strain on the staff, possibly affecting the lunches of many other paying customers.

Restaurants want to please there customers, in fact your server depends solely on your satisfaction for there livlihood. Just…please be reasonable.

    Thank you.

Gordon does have nice big forearms and a winning smile. I’ve heard he loves to have his fans drop by his home for a visit at any time of the day or night especially if they bring a nice bottle of wine and interesting medications.

Love Gordon, and his shows, I don’t know why he didn’t grab her by her arm (gently) and said let’s go elsewhere dear where there is actual “customer service.” And then walk out the door, never to return, and of course pass it around or let Janet post it on her blog.
I can’t BELIEVE being pregnant and having my salad dripping in some think dressing, my GAWD it makes me sick just THINKING about it and I’m FAR from pregnant! But they DO slather so much on today you could tip your plate up and drink it off the edge if you wanted. I’ve recieved so many salads that come to me already ruined by too much cresing. The lettuce goes limp and the crunch is gone. I think ALL salads in ALL restaurants should serve their dressing in a small cup or dish on the side of the plate, and let us use as much or as little as we want. Sometimes I just want to taste the flavor of the veggies I have before me and don’t want some randome flavor getting in the way. But, that’s just me. I also Like my baked potato with nothing in it but black pepper, and I eat the skin first and if I have room left over then I eat the rest of the potato. But the skin’s the BEST PART!!

Bad word of mouth can kill a restaurant pretty quick—and it’s already having an effect on the reviews for Gjelina on the YELP! site.

That spokesperson could use a few lessons in tact, IMHO.

Reminds me of the old 80’s Saturday Night Live commercial parody for a bad-attitude airline—that had the tagline:

“When you fly with us you’ll feel like your feet never left the ground. That’s because we treat you like dirt.” 🙂

When some one comes to your place and eat for me it is better to give people what they want, Because without them I would not make any money and be able to pay my bills and that is the reason each person need to feel special and need special treatment and that way they will want to come back and visit and bring there friends and family and when a person is not happy they are not coming back and they are going to tell other people to stay away and there fore they are going to go to another place and spend there money and keep another place going instead of mine.

Pure Beauty alone this little lady would had…had the dressing removed and served on the side and there is nothing wrong with that in any way shape or form..Lets face facts this woman is in great shape and has a wonderful body and all she is looking to do is cut down on fat and she asked for the dressing on the side to just add what she wants to her meal and you said no to that CHEF GORDON RAMSAY and lets look at the fact..She is Rich! She could afford the food and she could had brought her friend there and she would had told others and of course all her friends are going to listen and your going to lose something?

I Understand that your strick and want things done a certain way but on the other hand if Mc-Donalds and Jack in the Box and Kenturky Fried Chicken and Taco Time and Taco Bell and Burger King Alter there food? Then it should not had been a Big Deal. I Don’t think I can ever Fight with a person who comes to my place of Business to Spend Money and times are hard.

Dear Chef Gordon Ramsay It is better to l get the I.R.S. OFF YOUR BUTT,Because if they put a freeze on your account your going to be hurting and yes it looks good that you own 20 places but the biggest problem is that you have to pay to keep this places floating and that is not right..I have this real creepy feeling that you are being stabbed in the back by people who are back stabbing you and Sabotaging you? I really want your TAX PROBLEMS TO GO AWAY AND THAT WILL HAPPEN IF YOU GIVE THEM THE MONEY YOU ARE PAYING YOUR LAWYERS OTHER WISE THEY CAN ATTACK YOUR CHECKING ACCOUNT.

I don’t think Posh was out of line, I always order dressing on the side. Furthermore, what is this business about allergies? Allergies are serious business and a restaurant should definitely accommodate that. I feel it’s the restaurant that is being entitled.

I think this post was rather biased against Gordon Ramsay. But it obviously failed to make more haters.

Dressing on the side is no substitution or change at all. Their policy is rather ludicrous for the hospitality industry. I’d get mad even if I weren’t Gordon Ramsay.

And, something which you obviously opted on purpose, Gordon Ramsay complimented the food and said it was good.

Lets face the cold hard facts at Wendy’s you can get your dressing on the side and at Mc Donalds the same thing but at Chef Gordon Ramsay locations that can’t happen and He has rules and wants to have things done his way and that makes him happy but on the other hand your going to lose people and they are not going to come back if they can’t have it there way and What is nice about Chef Gordon Ramsays places is that you get to have a nice glass of wine to follow your meal and have some one wait on you hand and foot and that is the only reason we have fancy places to eat and when you get a people that come to your place who are rich or poor they should always be treated like Kings and Queens and have everything the way they want and that in it-self will make them really happy and want to come back to eat again and again and again!

I am not a stalker but from the first time I saw Chef Gordon Ramsay I liked him right away and When I heard him talk and walk and the words that came out of his mouth and yelling and screaming and his blunt words…Kind of made me pay more attention to him and He is bold and blunt and pushy and aggressive and is Raw and He hurts people feelings and I just thought that kind of person was groovie and Don’t get me wrong he is very easy on the eyes and he is very attractive but He is a married man and looking is just looking and yes I love Blonds and I find him very attractive and yes I Do hang on every word that is said but that is it! I really like him as a Fan and He is the only reason I Love cooking more then anytime in my life and I really enjoy Hells kitchen and Kitchen Nightmare and Masterchef and yes He cheated on his wife and his wife has foregive-ness in her and has given him another chance and that is water under the bridge and know they are moving toward the future?

I am always going the love the way..You punch people in the face with your words and your over the top..In You really have a way of making people feel real small and your abusive with your words and you always have some smart ass remark to make and..In a Good way! You keep people on there toes and…I am just thanking you for that and…I am leaving this Blog as well. You Bring Spice and Tender Beating in words to T.V. and I really like it and will alway be a fan of all your shows. But many people I know really hate you and can’t stand to watch your show and really tune out on you and there are so many people in the world that would attack you for hurting there feelings…But the reason I really the show..Is the Drama and reactions of others but I Can understand there frustrations…No Sex or Music and no T.V. that is added stress to 7 weeks of just listening to the people around you and creating Tramatized state of mind and…That in itself would be Boring some one to Death but for the prize why not!

Love him or hate him, this guy is a loudmouth who doesn’t hesitate to tell it like he sees it- but there’s one thing he NEVER talks about: his prostate problem. Long story short: he LEAKS! He likes to project an image of macho virility, but under his custom made suits are custom made “diapers.” He’s VERY self-conscious and has absorbent but undetectable “panty liners” sewn into all his underwear, to avoid wet spots. Thanks to his arrogant behavior, he has more than a few enemies and he’s terrified his secret will be exposed and he’ll be forever ridiculed!
