THE NAMESAKE WILL SURPRISE YOU

namesakecut.jpgIf you’re going to the movies and Wild Hogs isn’t your thing – we suggest “The Namesake.” It’s a fascinating, human story about a newlywed couple from India who move to New York City to start a new life. The shock of the change to a cold, grey, lonely city makes the viewer understand the difficulties of being an immigrant. The couple has children and eventually assimilate, moving to the suburbs. Their Americanized son and daughter present a whole new set of problems. Kal Penn of “Harold and Kumar go to White Castle” is particularly endearing and entertaining as their teenage son who hates his foreign-sounding name. It’s an epic story following generations of likeable people and their customs, and you walk out feeling like you just read a good book.

  1. Aren’t we bombarded enough with this movie advertising crap now it’s even being shoved down our throats on a gossip site. Please!

  2. If I want to look at smelly fugly indians I’ll just go to 7 Eleven. I don’t need to pay to watch a boring ass movie about them.

  3. Funny isn’t… We are the country people model us after, I mean. They’d love to live in their own country and have all the great things we have. But, some countries are just too corrupt. Which is why they came to our country in the first place.
What their race is – is irregardless. They came. And if their wise they’ll buy a business or build one from scratch.
But ironically, the smart ones don’t stay in NYC all that long, before they start moving inland. Why would anyone for that matter want to go live in California ?

  4. Hasn’t this whole story line been done before – not too original.
Sunseeds777 is right on about everyone else in the world wanting what Americans have and not being able to get it where they live because of corruption. So they have to come to the USA whether they like the US or not – and it really irks me when foreigners come here and complain about things all the while reaping the benefits of the system they despise.

  5. They are just lining up to get into Texas!
    Aren’t they?

  6. JANET THANKS FOR THE REVIEW. I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING THE FILM! AMERICANS DO NEED TO BE MORE EDUCATED ON OTHER’S CULTURES. AMERICANS HAVE IT SOOOO GOOD.

  7. That’s Right America is corruption free!
    * falls on the ground laughing *

  8. Janet, I really doubt American’s will rush out to see this movie, although they should. It’s sad that most Americans can’t watch anything else but Jerry springer and Flavor or Love. Trash TV.

  9. no thanks. i cant stand the smell of curry and onions.
i don’t know why, but somehow India became the trendy cool place in the 90s. I think people are over it.

  10. I can’t believe how incredibly racist and intolerant you people are! Aren’t you from a country that prides itself on freedom and is built by immigrants, black, white, chinese, indian, whatever. Sure this could be a bad movie, or even a great one, but to place judgement it on the basis of the ethnic origin of the characters is very immature, and actually quite frightening.
Rise up, don’t be a victim of stupidity. We are here for light-hearted gossip, not for moronic, dangerous, careless comments.

  11. Population China 1.3 billion.
    Population India 1.1 billion.
    Population U.S.A. 298 million.
Why would Americans want to learn any more about those pissant little countries?
What’s that got to do with Paris and Nicole?!

  12. Janet will you please get your ass on the ball and print something about the pathetic Van Halen reunion.

  13. “..and you walk out feeling like you just read a good book.”
It IS a good book, called “The Namesake,” by Jhumpa Lahiri.
    ROTFL.

  14. this here innernet thing seems to brang out the inner redneck in folks.
    ain’t technology fan-friggen-tastic?

  15. There’s nothing wrong with being White and right. Seems like Hollywood and the Music industry as a whole is more interested in making money verses teaching the youth of America about responsibilities for their actions. Look at what all that Gangsta Rap and Hip hop music has really done to our nation.
Lots of white women are getting into the sack with black guys, where’s that video of some noted female actress gettin screwed in the arse, boy don’t you know she was SETUP. Course, was that really her or a Russian alike?

  16. White women with half colored children who don’t know if their black or white. Talk about the mental problems in the future for them. Will they be confused or just plain rebelious.
Ask any Black person over the age of 60+ with a strong conservative view point is mixing of the races is a good idea? If they’ve seen what it yields in return in their neighborhoods they’ll reject that logic.
Oh, I forgot to say. White women know it all.
Wonder when Madonna is going to adopt a black baby?

  17. I read the book after seeing the trailer many months ago. It looked great and made me curious about the story. The book was terrific. I hope the film lives up to it.
I can’t believe how stupid and bigoted many of the people posting in this thread are!!! What a bunch of low class rednecks.

  18. 1:35pm
save it for you next klan rally- no one else gives a damn.
and you might be “white” but you are dead wrong- must suck to be you.
what in hell does rap music have anything to do with this discussion?
    stuff it.

  19. The book is amazing, but I am not so sure how it is going to be as a movie.
