The announced separation of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver after 25 years of marriage came as a shock to everyone. They seemed like such an enduring couple. The fact that Maria left their home and moved into a hotel makes it apparent that SHE is the unhappy one desiring separation. Living with Arnold must be a challenge – he is supremely self-confident and can’t understand anyone else who isn’t. But he has plenty of good qualities – a sense of humor, business smarts, and he’s a happy immigrant who loves this country and credits it for his success. Arnold and Maria symbolized the possibility of two political opposites compromising. Yet, we sense the rupture had nothing to do with politics. (Above, in this thirtysomething year old photo, Arnold appears to be turning on the charm for young Maria.)

Strom is gay.
I read in the Enquirer about 2 years ago about his flirting and groping and cheating whenever he got a chance. Say what you want to about the Enquirer, but they get the stories correct and most always with pictures. For sure, Maria knew about this and generally turned a blind eye to it, as all the Kennedy women were trained to do. The real reason she wanted out was that last uber-stinky cigar; that put her over the edge. lol
By the tightness of his shorts, she was apparently turning him on too.
Maria’s parents had an enduring marriage and I’m sure she hoped for the same. This separation must be very painful for her. I wish them both well.
I always hate to see marriages/relationships end.
I’m not sure what on earth she ever saw in him. I always considered him to be a creepy opportunistic who singled out Maria just to get in a reputable political American family. She’ll do fine without him.
Arno was no prize then in looks and neither was she. Anything to do with the Kennedy’s is also a little creepy and hopefully she wont surface back on national television….I think that is what this all is about.
Creepy people are everywhere….including right on this board….hopefully Janet is monitoring it with the new software from Google that identifies perverts and transmits their location to the nearest CSI.
Let me preface this with, I hate to see any marriage fail. But, I am not surprised Maria left Arnold. I worked as an extra on a movie of his at the peak of his fame. On this shoot I had to spend a couple of full days waiting for a take near Arnold and he was a jack hole with women. Rude, crude, and inappropriately touchy. Who behaves likes this in front of strangers when they are married to a Kennedy? No it wasn’t me, but one of his assistants. Oh, men who think they are untouchable and their egos … blah.

This isn’t a shock. I live in Northern Cali EVERYBODY knows he’s a whore hopping short tempered jerk. WHAT took Maria so long? Oh yeh, waiting for her parents to die. Catholics!!
Always sad to see a long term marriage dissolve. All the Kennedy women seem to put up with a lot of philandering, who knows why. I remember hearing he insisted she always wear a dress or skirt when out in public with him, guess he is stuck in another century.
Anyone that knows Arnold or has comes in some sort of regular or semi-regular contact with him knows that when he steps away from his family that he is usually on the “prowl” and knows about what Arnold really does in his spare time! I have witnessed this behavior in person with my very own eyes!
Also there are many woman that are professionals in the film making industry, whom are married with children that have been “allegedly” physically/sexually assaulted by him and will not come forward because of the wrath of Arnie and the power that he wields in Los Angeles and that industry.
PS I’m using allegedly because I don’t want Janet put in a situation with Arnie and his machine!
Maria, while attractive, really got thin in the face for her public persona.
She’ll bounce back with a TV-related something on buddy Oprah’s network…
and their son Patrick, who has tweeted (in response to his parents’ troubles) that:
“Fortunately we have Hummers to get over this little speed bump…”
sounds more insufferable with every passing day.
Barbara Walters will be foaming at the mouth to get an interview with Maria and make her shed tears on set. America the beautiful!
Symbiotic relationship. They deserved each other.
The Kennedys was an excellent production. Eight hours seemed too short. So many important details were skimmed over or missed completely.
You must see it.
He’s as despicable as a human being as he was wretched as a politician. And she is so far from a feminist she has no business leading women’s groups. I feel for their four kids and hope they can cast off the losers they have for parents and truly make something of their lives.

Arnie looks to be seriously packin’ in this photo. Judging from this photo he liked his wife more, shall I say, voluptuous.
I always felt that Arnold was using Maria to broaden his political aspirations. This seems to be the case.
If like she says she has not been happy in her marriage for a long time why even consider going back to him. She knows his reputation. She is better off without him and her kids will survive they aren’t babies.
Walt a previous commentor had it right. Arnold had intentions on a political career. Marie was a trophy wife with connections that is no longer needed. After his career died down in Hollywood, he was elected governer and did a less than adequate job. He finally figured out sitting in a trailer for a few hours and coming out to say a few lines is much easier and not as hard as running a state budget. Even so called smart women don’t sometimes recognize when the are being used. Arnold is a famous actor who could choose any beatiful woman in Hollywood. The Kennedy women are not the fairest in the land.

Agree with those above who say Ahnuld made a very good marriage in order to move up the ladder. He (and she) have probably given up prez. aspirations for him if they’re splitting up now.
Muffin: The story for years has been that longtime steroid abuse has left THAT package considerably shrunken—in addition to causing him other, under-the-radar health issues.
Patrick: “The Kennedys” was good! It died on this side of the border due to lack of coverage by the obscure cable channel that carried it—exactly what the Kennedy family wanted to happen.

My bi-polar cop-sister who years ago worked out like a maniac and had a fabuloud body, was working out at the same gym where Arnold did and she told me he hit on her several times. He was married at the time, she wasn’t in the least interested and she said he seemed shocked that she wasn’t interested so he must not have gotten turned down very often.
And yes, steroids DO shrink the “package”. I don’t know if it comes back after you stop using them or not, but it sure seems like a horrible trade off to me.
