We never had much of a weakness for Russell Brand, but we were horrified by revelations he made in a recent interview. According to Radaronline, back when Brand, now 36, was addicted to crack and heroin he admits he had “destructive tendencies” and was “fixated on dead animals.” When he performed onstage he’d bring a heap of dead rats or birds and says he’d “smash them up with a hammer and throw them to the audience. He’d say “Why are you disgusted? They’re dead already!” He says he was trying to “wake people up” by shocking them. It’s a horrifying mental picture that Brand clearly would be better off not mentioning. Drugs are no excuse.

Addicts aren’t in their right minds. I’ll give him a pass for mentioning the dead animal incidents if his intention was to warn young people away from experimenting with hard drugs. If that wasn’t his intention, refer back to my 1st sentence.

I’m not a fan of Russell Brand. It always makes me very angry and upset to see a little animal hurt or tortured in any way. However, I have to agree with Rick that “addicts aren’t in their right mind”. Ever get so drunk that you couldn’t remember a dang thing you did the night before? Drugs can be must worse than getting drunk and not remembering.
Again, I’m not a fan but Russell Brand has come a long long way.
He was raised by his mom who suffered from uterine and breast cancer when Russell was around 7 years and up. Sadly, it was during this period that he was sexually abused. He spent time with different family members while his mother was in the hospitals. He struggled with his weight and developed bulimia by his mid teens. Although she continued to suffered problems with cancer, Russell left home at 16 because he did not get along with her lover. His father used to take him to hookers. He had a hard time trying to fit in and once even stabbed himself over a bad review (or so the story goes). He has over come yet continues to deal with alcohol, sex and heroin addictions which takes incredible inner strength. He’s also bio poloar and has been arrested 11 times. These are just a few highlights of his life.
He is an unusual character and I hope the bad stuff remains in his past. I like Katy Perry and would never have matched these two up. Still, both seem to be very happy.

Their showmance was fueled on lust and admiration for the other’s culture and of course, love of publicity.
Interesting backstory Walt, thanks. I’m all for giving a recovering addict a second chance. Besides, if Helen Mirren formed the opinion that he was a terrific guy after she got to know him, that’s enough for me.
I think he tries to be as repulsive as possible. Perhaps that horrible childhood is the reason. Still, I think that cleaned up and styled differently, he could look good.
He resembles a used (very) tampon, and looks as tho he smells as bad. Not in any way interested in a thing this dude has to say or do. Ever.

Addiction is a CHOICE. I don’t buy that excuse at all for his dead animal fascination. There is something psychologically wrong with this man.
Drug use is a choice. Becoming addicted to them is not, and for most their addiction comes as a suprise because they started off thinking they could manage it. Meanwhile the physical dependence sneaks up on them before they’re fully aware it’s happening. And yes, I think it’s fair to say that all drug addicts have psychological problems they can’t manage or they wouldn’t be drug addicts.

Should have just said ‘the dependency sneaks up on them’ because as bad as the physical dependence is, the psychological dependence is far more difficult to overcome.

Russell Brand has always seemed creepy to me… he has those Charles Manson eyes… I wouldn’t trust him… I obviously can’t see why Katy Perry fell for him.
Any kind of sick twisted crap like that done with animals, dead or alive, is, as any police department can tell you, as serious sign of mental issues or a very serious nature. That is sociopathic behavior palne and simple and most serial killers have this type of animal abuse or carcase curiosty or destruction in their early years or history. It’s a sign of how it starts. Read up on it. The guy is seriously fucked up if he’s capable of doing anything like that. And you don’t just do it, and then get over it, it’s part of your inner psyche. Funny how those “eyes” DO give him away…well, not funny for her…what a shame, wonder if she knew any of his background before she married his ass. Hope she doesn’t get pregnant and RUNS away as fast as she can from this lunatic!

The vermin that live in back alleys would be afraid to meet him on a dark night. Katy Perry is crazy. I can’t see how anyone could ever be attracted to him, whether he has money or not.
This is kinda why I like him; and have decided young Russell took much too big a bite out of life at much too young an age….and he has already learned it all the hard way. He is an admitted sex addict, and that treatment generally requires even more self analysis than does drug addiction treatment, and he’s had it all. He may have all his “crap” behind him; while still being quite funny and eccentric still.
However, moving to America and becoming famous here…is A LOT of new pressure (not to mention marrying a pop star)….so we shall see what Russell does.
