When Family Feud host Richard Dawson died Saturday we read his obituary and were astonished by one fact we never knew about his life. He was married to British bombshell pinup girl Diana Dors for seven years! Diana was touted as the Marilyn Monroe of the UK – actually she was something of a “poor man’s“ version of Marilyn. When they met in the 50’s, Richard was a comic billed as “Dickie Dawson” and he was hired as part of her nightclub act. They had two sons and in 1966 she left him for yet another man. Alas, we didn’t realize the game show host had such a titillating past.

In later life (although she died relatively young) Diana Dors appeared in the UK comedy series the Two Ronnies. By that time she had put on some weight. She was funny. Check her out on You Tube:

Diana appears at the 3:10 mark.

It would be my suggestion that before Miss Charlton post’s such comments that she DOES he homework, correctly. Diana Dors WAS NOT a ‘poor man’s version of Marilyn Monroe’. In fact she was a hugely talented and popular actress, who today remains much loved and revered.

In a 37 year career Diana Dors was star of film, stage, television and Music. And after a successful stint in Las Vegas in 1959, Diana would work in the US on many populat TV shows, and appeared in several summer stock plays.

If that’s a “poor man’s Marilyn”, I’m sure there were many men emptying their wallets to line up.

This was sad news. Loved him on Family Feud, and my husband and son love the old Hogan’s Heroes series DVDs.

She’s pulling our leg. Of course, Janet knew about Dawson & Dors. She’s just making sure we know about it. 🙂

Wasn’t Dors (born Diana Mary Fluck)sexy? I know had I gone to school with her that I would have thought up naughty limericks to that last name. lol

    Quote per Diana Dors—–

“I was the first home-grown sex symbol, rather like Britain’s naughty seaside postcards. When Marilyn Monroe’s first film was shown here [The Asphalt Jungle (1950)], a columnist actually wrote, “How much like our Diana Dors she is”.

After his divorce from Diana Dors, he continued to send flowers to his ex-wife on her birthday, every year, and always defended her. (per imdb.com)

My only little tidbit about Dawson is that his son kept an apartment on Crescent Heights and Sunset — that’s where the son’s girlfriend lived, and dad Richard paid the rent. And oh yeah, the son was married at the time. This was mid-1980s…

One of America’s Sweethearts is battling a serious drug addiction- not hers, but her best friend’s. Through the years these two have been stuck to one another like white on rice and her fame rubbed off on her pal. They’ve been roomies, have worked together on set, and even launched a business venture together. But all that success has come with a price. After years of being sober, the less famous friend has fallen HARD off the wagon and our gal doesn’t know what to do.
