WE LOVE HELENA BONHAM CARTER’S STEAMPUNK LOOK AT THE OSCARS

One last 2011 Oscar comment: As usual, Helena Bonham Carter lived up to our fashion expectations. She often wears Vivienne Westwood, but on this night she chose a steampunk inspired outfit by “Alice in Wonderland” costume designer Colleen Atwood who won an Oscar for the movie. The Victorian corset and bustle ensemble’s exquisite detailing was a bit difficult to see because it’s black. Her fan handbag adds an appropriate subtle touch. Here’s one actress who didn’t have to credit her jeweler, shoemaker, and designer on the red carpet to repay them for loans and freebies.

  1. Typical Helena Bonham Carter. She always has some little quirk going on with her outfits. Keeps her interesting, and current I guess.

  2. Eh. If I had the opportunity to go to the Oscars I’d sure go all out and find an interesting and pretty dress. This woman has NEVER been pretty or interesting to me, except for in her movies where they dress her in victorian or otherwise fancy dresses. She’s a pretty woman, but I don’t get her normal dress.

  3. She’s never boring, and I think she’s one of the most beautiful and talented actresses working today. This dress may have disappointed some who are used to her outlandish garb, but I liked it.

  4. Eh… Victorian inspired, perhaps. What makes steampunk steampunk is the gadgets and anachronistic technology. Lacking that, it is just neo-victorian.

Still a pretty dress. Steampunks, as a rule, are rather enthralled by the aesthetic of the Victorian and Edwardian era, they just like to add to it.

  5. Poor little imposter, so badly wants to be Strom but just can’t pull it off…..go back to your call center before the manager misses you.
