It’s our duty to remind readers that a very interesting documentary on Jimi Hendrix premieres tonight on American Masters on PBS. Jimi Hendrix’s career was short but incredibly memorable – he died at age 27. We were massively influenced by his style during his life – he represented British dandyism merged with San Francisco hippie-cool. In those days you didn’t see many macho guys in sheer ruffled shirts and scarves tied around their thighs. We were lucky to know a member of the British band The Soft Machine, who opened for Hendrix on a US tour and he invited us to a show. It blew us away! Jimi was mesmerizing and his is STILL the greatest concert we’ve seen in our lifetime. That sexy voice!

I don’t think he’s worthy of such praise. He certainly had cross over appeal and was wildly popular in his day, but I never listened to his music and only know of him because he died a slave to dope.

My son says he died from sleeping pills and booze. And while I don’t think he was the greatest guitarist ever, as Rolling Stone does, he was great, and innovative. He wrote some beautiful songs, listen to Angel or Little Wing. My whole family are huge rock guitar fans so we will definitely be watching. Thanks Janet.

What are you people talking about? Wasn’t that good my ass. He was beyond “that good”. He is a part of that very special 27 club. Today’s artist should be this good and stop using too much auto tune and maybe people would know what true genius is and no I am speaking about self-proclaimed genius. I was just entering into my teen years when he died and have always wished I could have seen him live.
